Wisc. Senators Diss Citizens at Walker's Statewide Budget Hearings
Edited on Wed Apr-13-11 01:55 PM by eowyn_of_rohan
Background: These hearings would normally be held at the State Capitol in Madison, but the Walkernazis chose to hold them in smaller and LESS BLUE cities around the state. They said they wanted to do that so they'd hear from "the silent majority" of Wisconsinites who SUPPORT the Bill - So who is showing up? People AGAINST the Bill!! And what are the committee co-chairs doing? Not letting them speak!

NEENAH — Even as 100 people queued to address the Joint Finance Committee’s fourth and final public hearing on Gov. Scott Walker’s proposal biennial budget, the Committee co-chairs preemptively dismissed comments critical of the governor’s plan.
:wtf:
“The ones who normally show up to these hearings are the ones who are opposed,” state Rep. Robin Vos, R-Burlington, said before the hearing began. “What I’m hoping to find today is people who come up with creative ideas to help us deal with the deficit. It’s easy to come and say, ‘I don’t want my program cut.’”

Sen. Alberta Darling, R-River Hills, said that while a “silent majority” of Wisconsin voters support the governor’s plan to sheer the state’s $3.6 billion budget deficit almost exclusively through spending cuts, she would consider suggestions for how to improve the proposal.

“We’ll take those ideas and we’ll make changes to Gov. Walker’s budget,” Darling said. “But in the end we’re going to do what is best for the state of Wisconsin to get the state on a (road) to grow jobs and the economy.”

Vos told the Post-Crescent he was eager to hear whether Fox Valley Voters “would like us to cut spending to balance the budget or if they’re hoping to get tax increases instead.”

By noon, a handful of speakers had voiced support for raising taxes, including Shirley Strange, who is president of the League of Women Voters in Appleton.

“I implore you to study equitable ways of raising revenues,” Strange said. “Taxation is not a dirty word. Taxation just needs to be treated with integrity. Please consider a balanced approach to balance this budget.”

2. Have any Wisconsin DUers attended these hearings?
The've been in West Allis, Stevens Point, Neenah and some other town... Apparently there have been a fair number of protestors at these events.
