Stand up America...your President is speaking! (...let's do it, let's listen, one more time)
remembering the chill I felt in "Mockingbird" (stand up Scout...your Daddy's passin') :)

I'm listening to our President speaking about the economy - about the deficit - about debt - about infrastructure needs - about needs of the young - education - pell grants - TAXES for the rich - details about how they have benefitted and what must be done are powerfully and credibly emerging from him. He is coming to us from the obscurity of not telling us what he thinks, in order to talk to us today.

He is doing the educating of the public I wish he had done in a speech a week since taking office.
How different things would be had he stayed connected to the ones that brung him to the dance, had illuminated the country about what he found and what he had to do, and how to do it.

I recognize the man I voted for and at whose inauguration I shivered on the mall with cold, pride and anticipation.

I pray, I hope, I wish that this man speaking now will come through without our having to keep holding his feet to the fire at great frustration and mounting disappointment.

And with that I cling to the last vestiges of hope that he will do what he knows is necessary, the knowledge is proven by his words.
But words are cheap, the proof is in the action.

Come through for us- President Obama.
Be courageous, be a Liberal, progress this country forward.
Use the tremendous power we gave you, and follow up on your own words with steel in your spine

Thanks folks for reading my emotional rant.

4. Excellent speech
I only heard part of it while driving around at lunchtime. And he was spot on on every issue. Made some great points

5. I thought the speech was excellent. Now comes the battle
to get it done. It won't be an easy one. Let's help however we can.

7. When I think of how many petitions I signed, money I sent, bullets I sweated
in order to do all I could to help get this man elected, what this speech did is revive my last vestiges of hope that he really knows what we expect and need of him.

And that he uses the power and position we gave him and infuses it with personal power and do it while we go about the business of surviving in this tricky and sorry economy.

I am TIRED of helping.
I need to help myself while he does HIS job.

8. I'm sure we'll all do whatever we're able.
If you're not able, then there it is. I'm composing emails to my legislators now. You may do as you please.

11. I'm in no position to give anyone permission to do anything.
I speak for myself, and only for myself. Everyone does that. Nobody speaks for me, or for anyone but him or herself.

9. To hell with the spine. Give him his veto pen and instructions on how to use it.
Enough with the "I'm powerless without a majority" excuses. The constitution gives the executive branch plenty of muscle and the tools to flex it with. Let the goddam Republicans scramble for votes to override a veto.

13. Wars, torture, no public option, criminal bank bailouts, now talk of medicare cuts
I have no confidence in anyone who would do those things, NONE. You stand up for empty rhetoric, I'm not going to.

14. Yes StarburstClock, all of those disappointments and many very gravid others.
You read, I hope, how tentative I am, and that what I wrote was an emotional jerk into the direction of what I had hoped and prayed he could and would be.
