2. ohhh there's an F....
no comment though, perhaps the upstanding DUer that provided that little click is busy composing a missive on exactly why the speech did not live up to their ideals. Going over and over the reply to make sure it's fully fact-checked and referenced.

More likely just someone that's a little bitchy that their predictions about Obama getting ready to gut SS didn't come true as planned.

5. Probably angry that the prediction of huge SS and Medicare cuts was wrong.

22. Oh no need to worry about that
There's already a decent amount of spin that evil Obama was using secret code words in his speech that will magically mean that there will be massive cuts no matter what the speech said.

The part about the Bowles/Simpson report left me a bit wary. The "new" Obama should just abandon it and go his own way. Still, good speech if backed by action!

That should tell you all you need to know about my grade for this administration.

11. I haven't listened to Mike Malloy since the Bush pResidency
Just because I haven't had my XM radio in about 4-5 years. So I honestly have no idea about his opinion on Obama's Administration.

Pretty much just that Obama's just another corporatist who is following in Shrub's lead.

10. I'm gonna give the speech...
an A. I like that he took it to Paul Ryan's stinky plan. Now, I'll wait and see what happens. I will say this much though, the Republicans are going to go after him hard, probably harder than ever before. He's gonna need the people in his party and his supporters to have his back. He has to know we're ok with a fight and we won't back down either. Just my opinion.

12. A - for a few reasons
He did an excellent job of explaining the history of the deficit - probably the best explanation I've heard him give so far.

He painted the GOP plan as pessimistic and "not the America I grew up in".

He layed out four (I think) steps to reduce the deficit.

He said the top 1% were paying the lowest tax rate they have paid in 50 years.

He made the comparison that 33 senior citizens would have to pay for one millionaire's tax cuts! I thought that was awesome and hope others heard that.

There were no grey areas... he touched all the right bases as far as I am concerned. Now we need to lean heavily on Congress and DEMAND that they stand behind our President for the benefit of all Americans!

23. I wish I had the gift of rhetoric that he does
I'm afraid I would have bluntly said something like this: "The GOP are a bunch of cold hearted MF'ers who don't care if your Grandparents starve themselves to pay for their medical bills once they lose their Medicare."

:-)

13. The President of the USA
I voted for him and there were times I didn't agree with him, but stood with him anyway. I'm a die-hard Democratic and the President's speech today is a prime example of my reason my faith in the President is steadfast. His Speech rates an A-Plus in my book!!:toast:

31. A grade generally signifies one's opinion of that which they are grading.
You posted a grade, and now admit that you have no standing upon which to formulate one. Nice!
(Love the googly eyes, though. They add so much weight to your argument.)

I regard him giving a major speech in the middle of the work day as the equivalent of turning your school work in late.

34. If that's how you regard it, that's good enough for me.
Maybe I'm not cynical enough to believe that he didn't want people to hear what he had to say, so he just sneaked it in on afternoon TV.
Anyway, keep guarding those guardians.

for his giving the speech during business hours regardless.

Edited on Wed Apr-13-11 02:52 PM by Better Believe It
He knows how to read a speech well.

Of course, it has little or nothing to do with the bi-partisan deficit cutting negotiations and agreements that will be reached in the next several weeks.

29. A solid B+
I'd give it a higher grade except for the very end, where he still seems to think the reactionaries will see the light deep in their hearts and suddenly give a fuck about other people.

The olive branches are still being held out a bit too much, but he was rather solid in drawing some very important lines, and I think he did a good job in shoring up his base.

Still, what he should do is drive a wedge in the right and define those who still demand further tax cuts for the rich at such a time as being contrary to the spirit of the country, and he should have cited cold specifics about the correlation between tax cuts and revenue fall-off. The figures exist, and if stated coldly, there's no argument that it's "skewing the facts" or "making things up". Somehow he's still playing whiffle-ball with these guys, and it will only embolden them.

At some point he has to realize that there's no turning back; you can't fight an adversary while continually reminding everyone how good and true they are at heart.

Glancing at the words, I see problems. But I'm a progressive so I guess that is my curse in a hard conservative country. I will share my observations later.
