Poll question: The Speech and The Outcome
Edited on Wed Apr-13-11 02:13 PM by uppityperson
I am sure I missed many combinations, just trying to get some of them. What do you think about the speech President Obama just gave? How do you feel about him and congress following through?

The "hopeful" does not mean you are predicting they will, but are hopeful that it will happen.

1. One combination you missed, the essential one: "How do you feel about him and Congress and
YOU following through?"

4. I did miss the part about each of us following through also. The "WE" part of it.

5. No, they aren't "all". I am hopeful that congress can pull its act together and do the right thing

Please contact your congress critters and tell them you support what Obama speechified about.

10. Contact your legislators today and tell them you expect them
to be in support. Make it clear that your support depends on that.

14. "some" not "all"?
OK, that I can live with. Thank you. I tried to have some that weren't.

3. I refuse to be taken in again
I will wait and see what develops. I feel like a complete fool that I believed him in the past and I am not going to let that happen again. Actions speak a hell of a lot louder than words and Obama is great with words but not so much with the action. Maybe some day he will find his comfortable shoes and decide Gitmo really can be closed down and Habeas Corpus really can be restored. He once said those things would happen..

6. That makes sense. But this speech at least..
was firmer than others he's made.

7. Why wait? Contact your Congress member and Senators today,
and tell them that you expect their full support for this. That's something you can do, and you can do it this very afternoon.

9. You shouldn't feel like a fool- you didn't do anything except take his words at face value.
I'm sure you, like me, also tried to determine how much weight to give those words and found that you had just about every reason to believe that his tone and ambitions during the campaign would actually carry over to his presidency.

This turned out not to be the case, but there's no reason (in Obama's case, IMO) why you should feel foolish for having hope. He just let down his end of the bargain in legendary fashion. But that's nothing to do with you.

11. "Actions speak a hell of a lot louder than words". Thank you for contacting your congress people
and telling them you support what Pres Obama said. I very much appreciate your doing this.

15. I feel the right will continue to get its way.
They have the House and the Senate has Democratic Party sympathizers of the right. Obama has proven his compromising abilities. In the short run, I don't see how a speech will turn tides.

17. If it encourages enough people to contact enough congress people to urge them to do what he
proposes, they might listen. It has to be enough people, to put the "we" in "yes we can". I too am very cynical about congress, about their ability to do anything positive, but have to try.

21. Other.
I thought it was a powerful speech.

I am focused on how the public will react to it. Will the registered democrats call/write/e-mail their elected representatives in the House and Senate, and express their support of the positions that the President took?

We know the republican politician's response has been ugly. Will the registered republicans contact their elected representatives, and voice their opinions?

That can play an important role in determining the outcome.
