Thousands of union workers storm the Michigan state Capitol

Thousands at Capitol to oppose Snyder budget plan
Karen Bouffard / Detroit News Lansing Bureau

Lansing— About 4,500 protesters are gathered on the Capitol lawn to demonstrate against Gov. Rick Snyder's budget and tax reform proposal.

Many are carrying signs and wearing union T-shirts at the rally organized by a coalition of union and left-leaning groups. It's the latest protest at the Capitol since Snyder released his proposed state budget in mid-February.

Mac Helvorsell of Macomb Township was wearing an AFSCME T-shirt and carrying a sign that said "Legislators stop the attack on the middle class." He's a member of the union that represents public employees and works in maintenance for Macomb County.

"I'm here to stop the attacks on workers, the middle class and schools," Helvorsell said. ...........(more)

2. Outstanding turnout
And good for the local outlets to cover it. Too bad a Tea Bagger had a hangnail today, otherwise I'm sure the national media would be all over this important event. Priorities, you know.
