Obama's big Budget Speech - A Sellout to the Neocons?

1. Well, certainly the follow up action -- or lack of it -- will let us know where we stand
Hopefully the words were an opening salvo, and not just a sop.

5. Follow-up is our responsibility too. One can't expect from someone else what one is
unwilling to work for oneself.

10. Glad to hear everyone here will be taking the President at his word to "make him do it"
Much overdo, I think...

15. That's one kind of follow-up, but I was thinking about the kinds that have more to do with what we
do about/for/on the issues than it has to do with him. It's work and it appears that most people would rather shift the responsibility for it to someone else.

Democracy is about one whole hell of a lot more than just voting this way or that.

7. And how will you be following up?
So far, I've sent emails to my congresswoman and both Senators. I'll be communicating further with others tomorrow. What's your plan?

8. well, we've seen the efficacy of emails, of course.
I'll keep to my public writings (note: not the stuff here)-- which themselves may or not be efficacious in such times.

I'll also keep raising children and organizing locally as best I can.

2. Umm... no
He said we had to rethink our military mission. That's anathema to neoconservatives. (Though this board seems to have no idea what that word actually means.)

3. There ARE people who make a living out of conflict. Solutions are anti-thetical to their paychecks.
These people are called "the Professional Left" to distinguish them from the authentic Left, which IS primarily interested in solutions.

11. Is that an Ailes mark?
I seem to remember somewhere some faux news hack always making idiotic comments about Obama but couching them with question marks so it can be claimed afterward to be a question.

9. There are problems if one is progressive.
You have to examine the language in it's entirety and not concentrate so much on his opposition concerning the tax issue at the top. And while that is what progressives want to hear, the cow is out of the barn still.

12. Err...
There is this magical thing called an "advance copy" that the White house press office helps put out to aid journalists in getting the message. This will often have positions, directions, and comments that the president intends to stake out in a speech.

It really isn't that puzzling at all.

13. Then I guess that means Malloy would be illiterate

14. I'm glad Obama gave a nice speech,
but actions speak louder than words. I'll wait for results.

18. Well, I won't complain if he follows up on what he stated in his speech.
He always sounds good, but he doesn't always follow up with assertive action. This time I really want to see him get involved, not just state a position and then stand back and watch the fur fly. He's got to continue to mix it up with these guys. The time for conciliation is over.
