Obama's "Read My Lips" moment?
When I heard him state that he would not support extending the Bush tax cuts again, my first thought was, "Read My Lips..."

1. Exactly.
And what will he do when the GOP threatens to cripple some critical piece of government functioning when the tax cuts are again due to expire? His best opportunity to fight for their expiration was last year -- and he totally blew it. Political malpractice!

2. Of course, he didn't "support" extending them, even as he signed the f'ing bill.
He'll extend those cuts, I have no doubt. It'll take a little maneuvering to set up some political cover again, of course, but I've no doubt they'll be extended again, or made permanent.

3. Really? You are a pessimist

No way is Obama's speech like that.

"I don't support any new taxes". If you phrase it that way, all you have to do is wait for your political opponents to come up with a good, scary threat, and you can sign it through without "supporting" it.

Had to do it! Gotta protect you from that horrible thing we made up!
