Just another pretty speech - Obama is going to need to SHOW ME he has changed.
After two plus years of caving in and rolling over, I'm not going to fall for another pretty speech. He needs to show me he's changed. In the meantime he gets not a dime from this Democrat.

If you don't take the time to read something, dismiss it off-hand, and proudly proclaim that you 'don't need to read it' your statement about what the President 'needs to do' for you, seems pretty moot.

The world does not revolve around any one of us.

.. the crap that passes for logic around here.

THINGS I DID

Watered the lawn
Changed the oil
Flushed the toilet

THINGS I SAID I WOULD DO BUT DIDN'T

Build a new house
Buy you a new car
Solve world hunger

See, out of six items I did 3. I'm 50%! And people who fall for lists of trivia as though they compared to actual accomplishments, well I don't want my post deleted so I'll just say they are not too bright.

If no Democrat runs against Obama then I'll just have to write a name I like in that box in Nov of 2012.

Now that this prediction turns out to be wrong ... well, let's move the goal posts.

No dem is running against Obama.

And when you write in the other name, do you really think some one cares? That you hurt my feelings? Obama's?

Here ... take a deep breath, then hold it. Hold it. Hold it.

I suggest this because that is the essence of your threat. You are threatening to hold you breath, write in some one who can't win, and then teach me a lesson via an insane GOP President.

Who would of course end up being your President too.

Great plan you have there.

76. Obama made no commitments whatsoever on that score
So here’s the truth. Around two-thirds of our budget is spent on Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and national security.

:hurts::spank:::banghead: Buuuullllllllssshhhiiiiiiiiittttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Social Security is not NOT NOT part of the general budget! If it is, could you kindly explain why that and Medicare withholding are listed separately on my W-2? Anyone?

But we must do it without putting at risk current retirees, the most vulnerable, or people with disabilities; without slashing benefits for future generations; and without subjecting Americans’ guaranteed retirement income to the whims of the stock market.

Starting to get scary. No "cuts" for current retirees, and no "slashing" for future beneficiaries. Meaning that you will seek the middle ground between Repuke "slashing" and the ZERO cuts that all people deserve to get because they've been paying in all their lives? To a fucking SPARATE FUND? Why not even a single reference to raising the FICA cap, which would totally eliminate the need for any "cuts" at all, not to mention "slashings"? And no, since not even Bush with both houses of Congress was able to get privatization, you don't get any points for opposing it.

67. Campaign Obama
Nice one. So if Campaign Obama shows up in April, 2011, does it mean we'll have two more years of repub legislation or does he have to see his shadow or something?

Don't be too hard on the speech supporters. After the beat down their belief in him took since Campaign Obama turned into Corporate Obama, they've been hit with a bad case of battered wife syndrome and many are as mindlessly stuck on supporting him the same way that Tea Party types are stuck supporting repubs that want to destroy the social security and medicare systems they rely on.

Like Bush the Stupid said, fool me once shame on you, we won't be fooled again.

Obama is great at progressive speeches. It's the corporate staff and policies that follow the speeches that worry those of us that allow reality to enter the equation.

ETA, snarking aside, why don't you put that money and effort into supporting some of the causes you believe in? I think your time and money will do more good in helping achieve those goals rather than supporting a candidate who most likely won't win. You can feel you've done the right thing either way.

you'll support LOCAL progressives or someone who is running for President?

If you have that much money and time to contribute, it shouldn't be supporting someone who ultimately can't make the changes you want, which is why I suggested channeling them into the causes you'd like to support. I can see local Dems, too -- but not someone to primary Obama, I think that would be fruitless. And I'm suggesting this in the most sincere way -- a way for you to the right thing AND accomplish what you want.

but man, things could have been much better/different/progressive..& maybe still CAN be.
WE have to hold OUR President accountable..he even asked us to do this.
Don't like how some attack those who are REALISTIC,logical, and asking questions..
I appreciate Your OP & responses to those who attacked you for your opinions/tho'ts.

ole saying: "Your actions are so loud, I can't hear what you're saying".

Ask a dumb question, get a similar response.

I get the sense that most of those who call Obama a liar, have no idea whatsoever how the US government works.

Obama is not a king. Not a dictator.

But some seem to think that he is, or should be.

Obama is not a king. Not a dictator.

Funny, there weren't too many people other than myself saying that when he decided on his lonesome to exercise royal prerogative and take us to war against Libya with zero popular support or debate and no lawfully required Congressional approval.

Read my sig carefully and maybe it will sober you up some.

1) Obama as President can use our military as he has in Libya, the legal authority is well established. Which is why the only one screaming is Dennis, and even he has now walked back.

2) Obama as President can not unilaterally increase taxes on the rich.

But again, rant away.

1) Obama as President can use our military as he has in Libya, the legal authority is well established. Which is why the only one screaming is Dennis, and even he has now walked back.

Read the Constitution. Obama needs a declaration of war for it to be legal action. It is Congress not the President who has the authority to make the decision to take the nation to war. I can't believe I have to explain this to someone on DU - am I the only one left of the anti-war contingent? There were so many of us just a few months ago...

2) Obama as President can not unilaterally increase taxes on the rich.

Then why do you believe him when he promises he can?

63. Ahhh
On #1 ... of course there is the war powers act ... and decades of prior presidential action on this ... which is why you can SCREAM as much as you want, but this argument is DOA.

On #2 ... he can let them expire. And in 2012, after the reelection, the GOP can't hold tax cuts for the middle class hostage as they did this time. See, this time, if Obama lets those middle class tax cuts expire, the media (and I suspect folks like you) would claim that his raising taxes on the middle class proves that he hates them. But after the 2012 election those arguments have no leverage. He can't run in 2016. So he can let them expire.

68. Try actually reading the War Powers Act
It only allows the President to act in "a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces."

That's the law.

Did Libya attack the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces?

86. Wah wah. Then don't give your money, don't vote.
If Obama talks about what he's going to do, it's "just a pretty speech." Then when he actually does what he says he's going to do, it's not good enough and the goalposts just get moved, or the whiners simply ignore it and move on to their next daily outrage.

Not all of us "fell" for anything. In fact, most of us (meaning Democrats) knew exactly who we were voting for and are happy with the president we got.

93. It was a campaign speech.
And I have read here countless times by Obama's staunch supporters that you can't be naive enough to believe he will fulfill promises made while campaigning.

So the two corners have defined their positions and now the people will get slaughtered in the "working together" compromise phase.

It will health insurance "reform" all over again. Pretty speeches to placate the masses and backroom corporate deals with the real players/criminals.
The government is filled with millionaire criminal banksters/lawyers/lobbyists and privatization zealots who are incapable of any meaningful change that would benefit workers and the poor.
