Understanding Congress's solution to Federal deficit problem
Philip Greenspun divided the U.S. 2011 federal budget by 100,000,000 and wrote a little parable:

"We have a family that is spending $38,200 per year. The family’s income is $21,700 per year. The family adds $16,500 in credit card debt every year in order to pay its bills. After a long and difficult debate among family members, keeping in mind that it was not going to be possible to borrow $16,500 every year forever, the parents and children agreed that a $380/year premium cable subscription could be terminated. So now the family will have to borrow only $16,120 per year."

2. It is a spending problem, not a revenue problem: this family must learn to do without medical care,
an education, decent clothing and shelter, transportation and a 1,500 calorie low protein, high starch diet and quit bitching. Viola and seig heil for Ryan's and Boehner's budget plan has magically solved America's financial (spending, not revenue) dilemma, so on with deep tax cuts for large corporations and the uber-wealthy. :patriot:

5. And Loud Portions Of the Family, Sir, Insist Dad Cut Back on His Hours And Earn Less Of a Salary....
Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 12:50 PM by The Magistrate
Nor does anyone bother to point out that large portions of the indebtedness of the family consists of the mortgage on their home, the loan financing the family automobile, bills owed for surgery that kept grandpa mobile and alive, and student loans for the family children entering college.

6. Pat Toomey just said on MSNBC
that some families may have to layoff "the nanny"! Oh he's really in touch with the average American family.

9. Very peculiar indeed
I hope for his sake that his constituents didn't see the show. Well actually I hope all those who voted for him DID see the show. Could he possibly be that ignorant?
