20. I realize there are christians (right wing) that subscribe to this theory
but most Christians do not subscribe to the idea of survival of the fittest, an idea straight from Darwin. In fact that is one of the things real Christians object to about evolution - that it be applied to the human race.

73. I don't think it's racist.
The last time evolution was significant compared to culture for us humans, ALL our ancestors were living on the African savannah, and we were all forged in that crucible. So in that sense, it's a somewhat cogent reference.

That said, there are a lot of flaws in that statement.

I wish ill on this man. To suggest that a vulnerable human being with a disability or an illness--
deserves to be "fed on" is psychopathic.

The only cure for someone so depraved and so devoid of empathy--is to experience a disability or
an illness themselves. When they're scared, afraid, vulnerable and completely dependent upon
the very empathy and compassion that they lack--only then will they truly understand just how pathological
their views are.

I can't decide what should happen to him--but I'm thinking an industrial accident or a bad mishap
with an ice-cream truck would work.

21. I am reminded of Orwell's 1984
There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed. But always—do not forget this, Winston—always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever.

42. Interesting point
One that I don't think is usually considered. There is, however, a new word... a new "spin" on (and for) eugenics, I just can't remember what it is.

What's equally disturbing is that during the time of Hitler there was a powerful eugenics movement right here in the USA. It certainly wasn't limited to Europe. It is not so far fetched to think that eugenics could once again become a powerful movement here, particularly if the power of the right wing continues to grow.

32. Not quite.
Have you ever seen footage of a pride of lions feeding on a kill, especially if for some reason they haven't made a kill in a long time? It isn't a pretty sight. They temporarily forget they are members of a pride and fight savagely among themselves. And the cubs are the last to get any of the meat. I wonder if some day the rich, like a pride of lions, might start fighting among themselves. That would be a sight to see!

sometimes their would-be prey fight back...

Battle at Kruger is an eight-minute amateur wildlife video that depicts an unfolding confrontation between a herd of Cape Buffalo, a small pride of lions, and one or two crocodiles. The video was shot in September 2004 at the Transport Dam watering hole in Kruger National Park, South Africa, during a Safari guided by Frank Watts. It was filmed by videographer David Budzinski and photographer Jason Schlosberg.

If they really want to go there, I say let's go all the way. The problem with right wing Libertarians is that one of the functions that they want their "limited government" to have is to protect the wealth of the wealthiest. Wanna let nature take its course? Fine, bring it, but let's be fair about it, go full blown anarchy and see if they can hang.

Since that disease needs to have a little more gray matter to spread out in, than just the tiny pea-sized bit he has, that is rattling around inside his otherwise empty numb-skull.

He might want to consider wearing ear-plugs 24-7, simply as a preventive measure to keep it from possibly bouncing out, however.

36. Miller's career shows why this is a bad idea
When Miller was protected by the herd of good comic writers he had a successful career. He was considered fresh, intelligent and funny. Had multiple TV shows, on MNF, Saturday night live, commercials, film roles...

Then he lost his writers. When left to fend the wolves of low end comedy that is right wing political humorist. The films dried up, TV program failed and eventually he had to go where all no talented RW end there days low power AM right wing radio. The mans reduced to featured humorist that occasionally appears on Faux.

Oh for the old days and the protection of the comedian herd.

38. Perhaps Miller should consider himself fortunate that his "Serengeti" plan
wasn't implemented prior to his birth, since it might have otherwise meant that we would not have been "blessed" with his presence on Earth, much less his humorless, schlocky, sociopathic and snide commentary ever being aired.

People like him were just born in the wrong century, he would have likely have felt much more comfortable as a toothless village idiot in Europe during the Middle Ages.

41. Most replies are critical of Miller.. that misses the POINT. Poverty and disability have been so
shunted to offstage that people can now not only THINK these things, but SPEAK them.

In fact, I truly believe that this shows the result of confronting racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.

The free-floating rage in this country MUST have a target, and the one unprotected group left is poor and disabiled people.

There will be no concerted outrage against this comment, as there was about the Berg killing, etc.

It will get very little reaciton, and Miller will turn up the heat, and others will pile on.

The result with be further setbacks for poor and disabled people.

Does it matter?

makes it SO easy for people to ignore the issue. It's like it doesn't exist anymore. If they really looked at the issues of homelessness and poverty, they would have to admit this is a FAILED society. You don't let the poor go hungry. You don't let women and children sleep on the streets. You don't allowed teenagers to sell their bodies for FOOD. What kind of society allows that? A FAILED ONE. It's that simple. The repukes just don't fucking care...period. They would be thrilled to death if every poor/homeless person was dead. They just don't give a rats ass. They have ZERO empathy for those less fortunate. The empathy gene skipped a political party. However, the Liberals and Independents should be SCREAMING from the rooftops about this and I hope they do. And imagine, FAUX Network lets THAT KIND OF SHIT go out to the masses over OUR airwaves. :grr:

54. Last week I was in my capitol rebelling but it is doing little
Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 08:58 PM by mntleo2
...we poor rebelled against our DEMOCRATIC governor who cried crocodile tears because she claimed her hands were tied to cut the budget for the low income, disabled and elderly. I will say no Republican but some Democratic senators stood with us when they tried to kick us out from spending the night in our rotunda and there were no arrests THOSE nights.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8GVnH9oDUw&feature=related

We did keep "our house" very clean after spending 2 mights there.

The Democratic senators and reps told the governor that they would refuse to go into session unless she allowed us to stay. So it went on for 2 days until she turned up the heat. First on Friday night, she sent a PERSONAL message to a mother with her two kids telling her to leave. Then she arrested the rest saying, "The party is over ..."

As if it is a "party" now that the poor and homeless are strapped with even more misery at the hands of the rich.

See this governor has no problem with then poor paying the highest most regressive taxes in the nation nor for allowing rich people with jets to pay zero taxes, she gives tax breaks away to the banks and yacht club members are exempt. We have two of the richest men in the world living in our state, along with about 20 of the upper 1%, none who pay anymore than 2% of their billions in incomes in taxes, and Boeing paid NOTHING in taxes but got $1 billion back for nothing ~ while giving their CEO $500,000,000 in bonuses after moving their corporate office from the state that had been here almost 100 years. She won't even say a peep about any of it. But hey, her "hands are tied".

The Dennis Millers and people like her think that being poor, disabled and/or elderly is "funneh" and that what we had to say was "funneh". Yes we WERE being joyful because we were together speaking in one voice in OUR HOUSE ~ but our words were quite serious. However in truth in order to spin things for this governor, then it suddenly became a "party" and we poor are nothing but a lobbyist dinner joke. This Democratic governor is going to sign into law draconian and damaging legislation cutting things that would make Scott Walker blush, but she did *not* want to appear to BE him.

Well here is MY joke:

What is the difference between a panhandler and an elected official or their bank or insurance lobbyists?
The elected official and their bank and insurance lobbyists all wear suits.

My 2 cents

Love,
Cat in Seattle

Without the support of so-called "progressives", we simply won't survive this.

The second thing is, we need the attention of the "progressive" media. They are sooo smitten with the middleclass that they are ignoring us, and what you experienced is the result of that silence on their part.

A bunch of unions came at the end of the week in "solidarity" and the kind of sad/funny thing was that several of those unions are for social workers who work their asses off demoralizing and denlying the poor for services, as their freaking JOB.

But hey, they "supported" us because they know we freaking GIVE them their damn jobs.

83. you are right
the same people who were racist often hated the poor, they want everyone to be either rich, white, and male, submissive white females to be wives and make kids, poor men can be their slaves and poor women their whores, that is what they want. if you are too "feeble" to be their slave they will just as soon kill you off and if you are not "sexy" enoug to be their whore you get the same.

90. Privilege snowballs.
The more the privileged have, the more they get.

At first they have to ask for more.
Then they can demand more.
Then they can simply take more.

Then the people at the bottom have nothing left and we can be crushed simply for sport, or whim.

Miller is hoping for that kind of an outcome. He clearly thinks it would be entertaining, as long as he's one of the few with privilege.

You are very right. We have reached the point where it is safe to talk about us as if we are helpless, and as if we deserve to be helpless. As if we deserve to simply die because we aren't good enough to live.

But this certainly doesn't apply to any wealthy person who has a disability. Oh no. We all know that a wealthy person with a disability would be served at all times by an army of the best health care specialists and attendants to accommodate the problems from the disability and protect him/her from any of the problems or effects of discrimination that come from having a disability.

Problems? Discrimination? That shit is only for little people.

44. kind of like what happened to Dennis' career
It's pretty dead
From SNL, HBO and MTV to being another whiny has-been on FOX. Dennis used to try to sell himself as the hip, thinking man's comedian.
Now He's only a hair above Victoria Jackson in the dignity department.

a) People help those who need help.

b) The Dennis Millers of the world object.

c) People elect Dennis Miller to fight the polar bear that has been threatening the villagers.

d) Dennis Miller is polar bear food.

e) Elders teach the young that if you don't feed those who need food, you get to feed the polar bear ... like Dennis Miller.

76. Dennis don't know crap about how anthropoids work.
Dennis's idea of natural selection is simplistic. Primates are social animals, and we humans are the MOST social primates. Social animals don't survive by their own rugged individualist Randian merits; instead, by how well they cooperate with, relate to, and sometimes exploit, their fellows.

For most of our history cultural collaboration has allowed us to surmount evolution, to the massive benefit of us all. Rugged individuals didn't get us modern industrial society. They didn't get us agriculture. They didn't even get us stone fvcking tools. People who can cooperate with, and teach, other people are the reason you aren't living in trees watching the monkeys steal all your food.

Dennis would throw FDR and Stephen Hawking to the wolves. I think their contributions alone show "perpetually exhibiting a limp" doesn't exclude you from enriching humanity. I would argue that, since we have a surplus of food production, and since many "limpers" have provided advancement for humanity in the past, we should support "limpers" at a sustenance level as a matter of course as a society, to advance ourselves overall.

In fact, maybe we, as a society, should provide everyone an adequate living, a basic education, and access to our information network. Consider it a talent-finding expenditure. It only takes one modern-day Vulcan to warrant support for hundreds, thousands, or even millions of the poor.

You can't tell in advance where you're going to strike gold in the human gene pool, and outside appearances aren't necessarily a good indicator. I have often thought this was what Jesus meant when he said, "The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone."

89. The whole point of civilization is that we do not WANT to live on the plain.
Only unreconstructed savages think this is The Way It Ought To Be.

Which is, of course, the whole problem with most right-wingers. They all think they'll be the ones to win out in the contest of "Survival of the Fittest", because they don't understand what's really involved. But the SOTF has a large element of random chance -- even the fittest are wiped out in droves, and only succeed in out-surviving the "weakest" by a statistical margin. This is no way for thinking beings to live.

That would be nature taking it's course. We agree not to do things like that when we live in a society. That's the whole point. If you're argument is that the weak should be left to die, then you'd better be ready to deal with the natural result; a whole lot of desperate people who feel absolutely zero obligation to law, society, or even humanity.
