3. Well, at least he didn't drone-bomb Pakistani villagers without even knowing their names. |
|
Or put US citizens on an assassination list.

11. Except both of those countries bombed the US first (or declared war first). |
|
Anyway, this post is about the differing reactions to class war and the devastation it causes. It's not about making a saint of FDR or approving everything he did.
When the banksters ripped off what they could, causing a financial disaster, and subsequently tried several times to cripple FDR's response (including an honest-to-god coup d'etat attempt in 1934), FDR didn't invite them to run his administration. He didn't bail them out, or allow the costs of their crime to be paid by the vcitims. He called them banksters, challenged them directly, took seriously intended measures to curb them and help their victims.

12. No, you're trying to beat a simplistic point into a sword, but it's a rubber duck. |

First of all, look at your vocabulary: good, hate, hypocrite, every single... you're the one introducing these pieces of rhetoric. Hate Obama? Please? I just spent eight years hearing that shit from Bush supporters every time I criticized him -- that I "hated" Bush. Never did. He wasn't worth it. (Now Cheney and Rumsfeld -- !)
I'm saying FDR when he came in did things that were more right than wrong, and Obama has done more wrong than right. I'm saying FDR was solid for the reasons mentioned in the graphic -- he didn't make deals with the economic oppressors of the people. He even called them oppressors! Banksters! Royalists! That was why he was so beloved.
FDR also (relatively) rolled back the imperialism the US had practiced for many years against Latin America.
You take the far more forced circumstances of World War II and want to make these into some kind of equivalence. Obama is not facing a world dominated by Hitler and Stalin. That's the mythology that justified Bush. They're both more than free to follow a different course.

It's repetitive. Wall Street = banks, in this context, so why not add oil companies? Also, the last word is an orphan. It's not mine, I merely appreciated the sentiment.
