Waukesha, WI Follies: 97.63% Turnout in 2004? 20,000 More Votes Than 'Ballots Cast' in 2006?
Trying to get to the bottom of new anomalies discovered in County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus' bizarre election results...

Waukesha County, Wisconsin's County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus was already known, for some time, to be among the nation's worst elections official. And that's saying quite a bit. But new information being discovered over the past several days suggests she may be even worse than previously known --- which is also saying quite a bit.

Among new, disturbing facts about elections and their administration in the very Republican-leaning Waukesha, we've been examining evidence suggesting 20,000 more votes than "ballots cast" as reported by Nickolaus in the county's 2006 general election, and a remarkable 97.63% voter turnout there in the 2004 Presidential election.

We've been trying to get to the bottom of these anomalies since they were first discovered a few days ago, and we've been going back and forth with Nickolaus to try and clear them up. Here's what we've been able to figure out...

1. When anomalies come, they come not single spies, but in battalions.

8. But, but...republicans want fair elections.
they said so. That's why they are so concerned about the 1 or 2 cases of vote fraud in Milwaukee. Isn't that why they want voter id so badly? Sarcasm thingy, where are you?

9. What I cull from her website is that any ballot with any "write in" is hand counted.
No optical character recognition. ...I'm guessing.

That doesn't resolve the question as much as introducing a way to a viable method for Election fraud.

WHATS THE PROCEDURE TO COUNT THOSE BALLOTS.... AND WHO DOES THE COUNTIN'?

13. While "write ins" could be among the "entered by hand" she mentions...
The numbers still wouldn't jibe, as appx 20,000+ write-ins in each of 5 statewide contests on the ballot in 2006 is a LOT of write-ins.

10. do we have any info re turnout before her tenure?
Not that it matters much when votes exceed registration, but how anomalous is the 2004 figure for the district? Probably 30% higher or more is my guess.

14.  Good Question.

1992 Waukesha County, about 182741 voted. That represents about 82%

New voting machines will be in place soon

Keep your money. We'll pick up the tab.

That was the message Waukesha County sent to Muskego, saving the city $42,000 it had planned to spend next year for new voting machines.

The city's 1996 budget had included borrowing that much money to purchase seven new voting machines one for each aldermanic district to replace its mechanical pull-lever machines.
