Does anyone else feel like the tide is turning?
Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 08:26 PM by The Backlash Cometh
I'm beginning to sense that the Republicans may have pushed as far as they'll be able to go with public support, and the Dems are picking up traction. And then I thought to myself, wouldn't you figure this would happen just as the world was coming to an end?

1. Doesn't Bill O'Reilly control the tides?
I seem to recall reading something along those lines.

Bad news for Congressional Republicans

PPP's newest national poll finds that after a little more than 3 months in charge House Republicans have fallen so far out of favor with the American public that it's entirely possible Democrats could take control of the House back next year.

43% of voters think that House Republicans are doing a worse job now than the Democrats did, compared to only 36% who think the GOP has brought an improvement. 19% think things are about the same. 62% of voters thinking that the Republicans have either made things worse or brought no improvement to an already unpopular Congress does not bode particularly well for the party.

46% of voters say that if there was an election for Congress today they would vote Democratic, compared to only 41% who would vote Republican. That five point advantage for Democrats is only a hair below the margin Republicans won by in the national popular vote last year. A victory of that magnitude for the Democrats next year would at the very least result in the party taking back a large number of the seats it lost last year, and it could be enough to take back the outright majority- hard to say at this point without knowing how good a number the GOP can do in redistricting.

The key to this strong movement back toward the Democrats right now is the same as the key to the strong movement away from the Democrats last year- fickle independents quickly growing unhappy with the party in power. Exit polls showed independents supporting the GOP by a 19 point margin last year at 56-37. Now only 30% of those voters think that the Republican controlled House is moving things in the right direction, compared to 44% who think things were better with the Democrats. Given those numbers it's not much of a surprise that independents now say they'd vote Democratic for the House by a 42-33 margin if these was an election today, representing a 28 point reversal in a span of just five months.

18. So 41% of Americans are fascists?
Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 08:52 PM by MedleyMisty
God, that's scary.

If people had any sense, the Republicans would be finished as a party and we'd come up with some new ones. We need a lot more parties. Me, I'm personally liking the Pirate Party. :) And in our new multiparty system, the Democrats could take their rightful place as conservatives who are more sane and less fascist than Republicans. And those of us who aren't conservative could go to the new parties that would actually be on the left, the Democrats could represent the interests of sane conservatives without being bothered with leftists, and everyone would be happier.

But yeah - as long as nearly half of us support fascism, I don't see the tide turning or any reason to feel optimistic. More a reason to feel completely terrified.

Err - if this is not the best-written post, I fasted in solidarity with the Libyans today and my brain is low on calories.

41% and trending downward. Had there been strong leadership, that numbers would have gone the other way. Scary world we live in, but I'm not giving up.

Things look better at the moment because there is no election campaign on now, so the Mighty Slime Machine
has eased up a bit. They will be back.

The other side has so much money that it will be an uphill battle to hold the White House and the Senate.
All they have to do is hit the insurance companies up for a billion or six (they can always raise their rates
again to pay for it), and the Koch brothers will kick in a few more billions.

42. Yep Yep The tide is definitely turning. Sometimes you have
to do things in a way so as to make the other side introduce the subject that you really want to tackle.

By insisting on making "deficit deficit deficit" the new 9-11 fear, republicans have unwittingly put tax raises on the rich on the table.

Obama jumped right in there kicking ass. To boot, they were suckered into doing so by the so called "cuts" that everybody has been moaning about.

The tide is definitely turning. It won't be long before the public insists on tax raises on the rich.

I have been listening to the other moan and wail and cry about "class warfare and taxes on the rich ever since the speech. It's music to my ears.

Yesterday I watched C-span and there was a lively debate in the house between democrats and republicans about taxing the rich, etc.

It's only a matter of time now.
