TEPCO urged to pay temporary damages

The Japanese government has requested that Tokyo Electric Power Company, the operator of the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, quickly make temporary payments to affected residents for damages. TEPCO has agreed to make the payments.

A government task force set up to deal with compensation and other economic matters related to the nuclear accident met for the first time on Friday.

The task force decided to urge TEPCO to make the payments to residents around the plant as soon as possible, instead of waiting for the results of negotiations on legal compensation.

Residents in areas within 30 kilometers of the plant that are under instructions to evacuate or stay indoors are eligible for the payments.

4. Not magically

The radiation around here, 100 miles south of the reactors, is reducing on its own, thanks to the phenomenon known as "half-life".
Iodine-131 was by far the most common isotope around here, but its half-life is only 8 days or so.

(追記)　3月24日の値は約0.24μSv/hです。バックグラウンドが0.08μSv/hありますので、これを差し引き、正味上昇量は0.16μSv/h、 これがヨウ素131の半減期8日で減るとすると、8日後の4月1日は0.16/2+0.08=0.16μSv/h、 さらに8日後の4月9日には0.16/2/2+0.08=0.12μSv/hになると考えられます。

Translation: "The level on March 24 was 0.24μSv/h. The background radiation was 0.08μSv, so the radiation increase was 0.16μSv/h. 5. Yes but we are not talking about Half life

but corporate double speak, Whether it is BP (They;d be better off if they did not use the massive amounts of corexit incidentally) or TEPCO... or for that matter the US and TMI or Chernobyl.

The same logic works and the INDUSTRY does protect itself.

By the way Pool # 4 is losing stability and the water might be entering the artesian system.

I wish the best to Japan, but at this point some of the worst elements of the Zaibatsus are rearing ugly heads.

6. Why aren't we talking half-life?

Around these parts, that is a very important topic, as it is helping to reduce the radiation levels, "magically" or otherwise.

As for TEPCO, it's not a zaibatsu company and never was. It's just a power company that was given a monopoly in a certain region of Japan and was allowed to get away with too much "undersight".

it did not start with the quake. That is what we are talking about.

When they say that they can reduce it from L-7 to oh L-5 it means that less radiation would have to be released. The Levels are by becquerels released. Why I said, radiation that magically disappears.

Once you reach level seven it means that a certain amount of radiation HAS BEEN RELEASED.. not that less will be released in the future. That is your double speak.
