Moyers Ends Effort to Bring Weekly Series to PBS
Source: New York Times

Bill Moyers said he won’t be returning to PBS with a weekly series after all, because PBS can’t find a time slot for a new show.

Last month, the Carnegie Corporation of New York said its board had voted to give Mr. Moyers’ production company a $2 million, 29-month grant for the new show, with the working title of “Something Different With Bill Moyers.” At the time, he called the announcement premature.

In an e-mailed statement Thursday, Mr. Moyers said, “It was tempting to think once again of creating a forum for voices, viewpoints, and ideas rarely heard in mainstream television, and my colleagues and I were excited about the prospect.” He said that thanks to the Carnegie Corporation and other financial supporters, his company had been assured of two years of financing.

But, he added, “PBS has informed us there is no time slot available in which the series could be designated for simultaneous common carriage across the country. After discussions with my underwriters we have decided to pursue other options and projects.”

5. But was the funding restricted for a PBS show?
He might not be able to just pick Al Gore's network, for example.

3. No time slots for real journalism?
:puke: PBS is so corporately owned now that it can't do it's real mission.
Cut a hunk from defense and give it all to NPR & PBS and get the corporations
out!

I hope Bill Moyers looks @ other networks for his product. Maybe the one Keith
Olbermann is going too.

7. What does PBS stand for now? "Pure Bull Shit"?
That's what this excuse is, anyhow. No time slot available for a real journalist (with two years of guaranteed funding) who knows how to delve into the issues in an informative and engaging way? Maybe it is time to de-fund PBS.

9. Bill Moyer's had a show about the 2004 election ...
.... The same people* who were dropped from the voter rolls and made to
vote provisionally if they could vote in Cleveland Ohio were in files in Karl
Rove's office in the White House. Bill is a real journalist.

8. Rethugs again
PBS died in 1994 when Newt and his gang of cultural idiots got control of the house. Lets not forget Ronny Rayguns dismemberment of the fairness doctrine.
