Statue of Liberty stamp error: Las Vegas replica honored instead
From NJ.com.

Very short (but link-filled) article, so I'm just going to give a summary and the link, above.

The USPS released a new stamp depicting Lady Liberty. But it's not the Statue of Liberty we're all familiar with, from Liberty Island in New York. No. Instead, a cursory examination actually reveals that the Statue of Liberty depicted is from the "New York New York Casino and Resort" in Las Vegas, Nevada.

:puke:

Post Office is pulling a "What's the big deal?"

What are the odds a porn movie has not been filmed in it yet?

3. If an artist had painted a picture of it would it be different?
It's a reproduction of the Statue just as painting would be.

5. The statue in question actually differs in appearance from the real Statue of Liberty in...
...a number of noticeable ways.

Here is a pic from Lins.com:

You can see the difference, as well, in other pictures. The point being, the two statues are actually designed differently. While they are both a lady holding a torch with a spiked crown, and while the one in Vegas is meant to resemble the real Statue of Liberty- it's was changed quite a bit from the way the actual Statue of Liberty looks.

So, really, the stamp doesn't depict the Statue of Liberty- it depicts a knock-off of the Statue of Liberty. If the knock-off were an actual replica of the Statue of Liberty I doubt anyone would have noticed.

4. Protesting her pending deportation, the French born Liberty refused to appear on a U.S. stamp.
A professional Las Vegas impersonator was chosen instead.
