Weather Cuts Crowds at Iowa Tax Day Tea Party Events
April 15, 2011, 4:38 pm
By Dave Franzman/SourceMedia Group News

CEDAR RAPIDS- Tea Party supporters in Cedar Rapids gathered downtown again on Friday for an annual “Tax Day” rally. But organizers of the Iowa Taxed Enough Already (TEA) groups faced a pretty formidable foe in the weather.

In past years, such Tea Party events in Cedar Rapids drew upwards of a hundred participants to carry signs and listen to speeches. But barely two dozen soggy supporters braved the cold rain and strong winds to take their tax and spending message public along First Avenue N.E. near the Cedar River. A similar noon-hour Tea Party event in Davenport drew a reported seven participants. An event scheduled for the late afternoon in Dubuque got cancelled because of the weather.

snip

While a number of Iowa Tea Party events were scheduled for Friday one scheduled for Des Moines Saturday morning might have a good shot at a larger crowd. The event set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on the steps of the Iowa Statehouse will feature Republican Presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty. Pawlenty is the former governor of Minnesota.

4. I heard almost six people had signed up for Sarah's trip to MadTown....
...of course five of them were bus drivers and the other guy was the organizer. But still, from Fox's viewpoint, it's tens of thousands, perhaps more. I can see the palm trees waving in the breeze now.

8. We have the same weather on the other side of the state too.
The head of that bunch said in the article that they were expecting fewer people this year anyway.
