Something to cheer you up after a string of bad news.

I atended a legislative forum the other night. A handful of newly elected tea party state reps were speaking. About the upteenth time one of them said "WE DON'T HAVE A REVENUE PROBLEM, WE HAVE A SPENDING PROBLEM", a voice from the back of the room shouted out:

"Quit with the tea party talking points!" and the audience burst into applause.

A truly hopeful moment in a red state full of tea party fools.

1. Beyond the shorter term deficits, the Medicare and Medicaid situation really are pure spending
problems.

10. Are you thinking we should raise our regressive payroll taxes then?
Because there is no cap on Medicare/Medicaid payroll taxes. The rich already pay up to their entire income

12. I think he's thinking we should
just end the drug war, pull out of Iraq and Afghan, End corporate tax shelters and loopholes, raise taxes on the upper 1% to Clinton era levels, eliminate oil company and nuclear industry subsidies and slash the military budget before adjusting 'self-funding' programs like SS and Medicare...

but i guess i shouldn't put words in anyones mouth.

5. So glad they understand The Koch Party talking points are lies.
So glad they know we certainly do have a great revenue problem with corporations and the Top 5% contributing so much less to our tax base than they have in the past.

Letting the Bush tax cuts expire would help a lot.

6. And, may I add another moment of hope?
The teabaggers held a rally over in Augusta, GA. yesterday. There were, at most, 30 people there. They reserved a big amphitheater in anticipation of a huge crowd. They claim they're not disappointed by the low turnout. Yeah, right. This area is Teabagger Central, and it looks like even some of the locals are starting to wake up.

Edited on Sat Apr-16-11 10:25 AM by QED
there was a thread here last night about it. I think it was Woodinville - but definitely the East Side (of the Lake).

Later:

It was the inagural meeting of the Tea Party of Woodinville, Kirkland, and Redmond. Here's the link:
