Film maker Taki Oldham came to the United States from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, to find out what the TEA Party movement is all about.

8. True certainly of those in the know.....but...

Most of the TP'ers believe they are part of a grass roots movement that people like them created. I, and my household, are probably the sole family in my neighborhood that knows better. We get spammed by chain emails frequently from our neighborhood association with right wing propaganda. Most I ignore, but some I take the time to refute. I just sent them all a copy of this documentary. That should increase my popularity huh?

Most TP'ers are religious and think all liberals are godless communists. So they automatically put up this huge wall in front of anyone who disagrees with them. I have managed to break through to a few of the more reasonable ones (they do exist, believe it or not) I've actually gotten some positive response from some of my right wing neighbors when I refute some of the more "out there" emails that get sent. One lady commented that even though she was a registered Republican, she was embarrassed by some of the emails sent by our more "out-there" neighbors. Hope springs eternal!

I've actually messaged with filmmaker Taki Oldham on Facebook. Super nice, approachable guy. He's a bit frustrated with with how so many working class American's vote against their own best interests, and how they have been bamboozled by the monied interests.

It is interesting to me how the TP has piqued the interests of folks in Australia to the point he came here to learn about it.

Responses are trickling in from my conservo-bot-TP neighbors. I might not get invited to the next block party I'm afraid.

But guys, please keep doing whatever you can to get the word out. We are at a disadvantage and lacking the billionaire backing the TP has, but if each one of us registered DU'ers could break through to just one TP'er, that would be 170,000+ more people who might just begin to think, reason and follow the money to the truth.

Thanks for posting this. I'm curious as I watched 2/3rds of this and bookmarked it for later...what is the difference between this group and the average southern republican? I ask this of my liberal friends here in red state hell, and my husband and I ask it of republicans. We get stammers and slight protests of 'we're not like them', but when ideology, policy, etc. are injected even the republicans can't come up with differences.

From where I sit, the teabaggers are just louder. Curious as to what Mr. Oldham might think.

18. I think the most outrageous scene...

for me...I mean the one that enraged me the most, was this Young Republican-type (you know, clean-cut 20-something in an $80 creased dress shirt) teaching a session on how to use the Internet to game the system by marking so-called liberal books (that he had not read, of course) with one star on Amazon (30 minutes a day doing this, he said) and marking all conservative books with five stars (also doing similar commenting and reviewing on Rotten Tomatoes, Twitter, Flickr "anywhere young people are, we're there", and DARING to compare himself to the original American patriots with this utter LACK of integrity and honor.. This kid had no moral compass whatsoever. Soulless.

Most of us on the DU are fully aware of the Tea Party phenomenon. Long before the Tea Party there was wholesale manipulation by right wing AM hate radio and Fox news. The right wing's overwhelming advantage in media coverage is destroying our nation's democracy right before our eyes.

The very survival of the nation, and quite possibly the civilized world, is hanging in the balance. Believe me, these fascist elements will not stop at the transformation of the U.S. Their efforts are clearly underway in the U.K., Western Europe and Canada.
