Green Goddesses: 5 Amazing Women

In honor of Earth Day, we’re deifying these five women for their devotion to protecting our future. Here, they give us an eye-opening look at what it takes to live a more eco-aware existence. You may be surprised at how easy–and rewarding–healing the planet can be.

“Not every eco-endeavor has to require sacrifice. When you upgrade your cell phone, turn in your old one for cash. Phones contain hazardous chemicals, and they often end up in landfills contaminating groundwater. Greenphone.com lets you find out how much your old phone or PDA is worth and how to exchange it for money.”

1. Awesome!
Edited on Sat Apr-16-11 03:07 PM by Buzz Clik
But, why the focus exclusively on women? Is someone under the mistaken impression that women are underrepresented in these areas?

6. If were exclusively focused on men?
Yeah that would be odd.

13. Why would anyone do that? Why did the author of the article do it?
Such a curiosity: "Treat us as equals!" but then never miss an opportunity to set yourselves apart.

It's lost on me.

19. maybe because of all the centuries of "male only". I know this is hard for you to understand, but
that really is the way the world has worked for several thousand years. and yet, the second women don't include the men, the whining starts. it is, alas, boringly predictable.

17. Why?
Such distinctions don't interest me.

Might as well start a list of lefthanded environmentalists.

12. If both the article and the title of the OP stressed strictly male contributions, the yes. 100% yes.

9. why is it that, as soon as something focuses on women, I can count the seconds until someone whines
"what about the MEN?? why aren't the MEN included?" and yet, most of those same people would have nothing to say about a "men only" list.

10. How many "men only" lists do you see?
You're basing your outrage on a hypothetical situation.

I don't see any "men who should be deified for their environmental work" lists to compare against.

11. you must be awfully young to ask a question like that.
and, again, there is nothing stopping you from creating your own list of "men who should be deified for their environmental work" if the list of women bothers you so much.

15. Exactly. The list would be have no less awesome if the gender was simply dropped.
It will be more notable when the insecurities have disappeared entirely. That is when equality will have arrive. (Equity in accomplishment arrived long ago.)

14. Have you ever stopped to even consider why that happens?
Have you bothered to look at it from any perspective but your own?

And it isn't whining. Jesus effin' Cristo.

5. Actress: Juno
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellen_Page

"In 2008, Page spent a month living in an eco-village, studying permaculture at the Lost Valley Educational Center outside Eugene, Oregon."

I've seen her interviewed a couple times and she always talks about green stuff (not money).
