1. Atlas Shrugged was a boring book that only held sway if you really think being an ass is a virtue |

She found the remains of a special kind of motor. (Actually, it was some kind of energy reception device that draws static electricity from the atmosphere, but if they throw in a free motor then you can't go wrong.) Link to a DU thread about the religion invented by Ayn Rand

5. hahahahahahaha, $683,000, or round up to $684,000.00 |
|
at $12.00 a seat equals 57,000 folks that showed up to see it in 4000 theaters nation wide.
I'm willing to bet that most didn't even know the book version existed.

to be fair,it only opened in 299 theaters. Robert Redford's CONSPIRATOR opened in 700 theaters and came in at number 10.
Still, the horrible reviews and the low budget will kill this film. Only way they will do part 2 and 3 is if some rich Republican finances it.

Or is that just the excuse they are using for releasing a bad movie?

A printed copy of Atlas Shrugged is cheaper than the case of paper and new toner cartridge it takes to print one yourself.

it will probably pull in about 100,000 in the same number of theaters. That POS movie will play to the true believers who will go even though they know the thing is shit but still they will go once and then say fuck it.
It opens just like any of the RW fuckhead films, a few full theaters for one or two weeks and then nobody ever hears about it again. Anybody remember "American Carol"? It was supposed to be the big coming out of the new Republican cinema. The only problem was that it was so fucking bad that even pukes could only stand seeing it once.
At least with The Passion you had decent production values and acting along with a nutso fan base that would go back again and again to watch some poor shit get tortured for two hours.

has it's risks..especially when your usefulness is at an end. Being a science fiction fan I read the book, all 1200 pages. She really had to work it hard to somehow justify destroying world civilization over personal pique. Her 'brilliant creators' practically had angels wings while I DO believe the evil communist opponents actually had horns. I think therapy would have helped her angst over what the marxists did to her successful middle class family in the revolution, eh? I often wonder how that couple thousand 'brilliant creators' did when they marched out from their golden valley into a world of cannibals, warlords and death. The sequel would have been real short, bet they lasted about a month.

19. A meaningless comparison.... |
|
Rio on nearly 4,000 screens, same for Scream 4. 10 Million and 8 million respectively. C'mon. What is meaningful is that it is number 13 out of 16 films in release. PT Barnum bombs. Big time. It would take over 30 weeks of BO at this rate to pay for the film. It has been our for 48 hours. Do the math.

Atlas is a turgid anthem to 5 year old child level greed that conveniently ignores the fact that the 'creators' need the rest of us to build, buy and use their 'creations'. It's blind both to the fact that civilization is a partnership and bloody revolution and/or the collapse of civilization always follows the concentration of wealth in too few hands.
