Keep alert folks. Tornado watch, powerful winds, and flash flood warnings for DC.

4. Reading DU, I thought this was another nail-biting, cringing "Japan radiation" thread. nt

we're OK here in the Blue Ridge
A few tornadoes south of here, probably got 3-4" of rain. Lost power for a minute. Lots of good lightning so my dog is hiding in the basement. None the worse though.

6. Wow -- I Thought the College Park Tornado of 2001 Would be Last in This Area
It went right by my old apartment complex and ripped up an enormous swath of forest. Then proceeded to Beltsville and ripped the roofs off houses in entire neighborhoods. Only killed two people when it flipped a car on UM campus -- it is a miracle the death toll was so low. It just seemed to skip over heavily populated areas and pick the only uninhabited spots in and around the beltway for its greatest fury.

But another one only ten years later? Sounds more like Oklahoma.
