Finally, after days of howling winds, rain, snow in the nest this
morning and harassment and attacks by an owl Mom eagle is getting some much needed rest. http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles

Very peaceful, and rest well, tomorrow will bring the demands of the eaglets.

1. I'm very concerned about E-3 though. Tough to watch
at feeding time.

9. As harsh as it is beautiful,
but siblings trying to kill each other is a harsh that is hard to watch.

11. You're right. He/she has been merciless to E2 with pecking.

6. I saw E-3 getting some good feeding from the dad...
and I wonder if because E-3 is younger, maybe he doesn't need quite as much yet. Sort of like a toddler or young child doesn't need as much as a teen?

12. I've noticed the Dad feeds E3 more than the Mom does. Weird.

4. Siblicide or Cainism
Siblicide. Yes, that’s a real word, and a widespread phenomenon among birds. In a few species, including some eagles, American white pelicans, and blue-footed boobies, the first-hatched chick almost always does in its younger brother or sister. That’s called “obligate siblicide,” or sometimes “Cainism.” In others, like the great egret and black-billed magpie, life in the nest is harmonious unless the food supply gets short, and then things turn nasty: “facultative siblicide.” "

There was once a cam on Black Eagles, and every year there would be about a 4-day "Cain and Abel scenario" which was painful to watch.

8. I just checked again, and she is still resting...
head beneath a wing, and good for her. I hope that Dad is peacefully resting nearby in the tree. Raptors are amazing creatures.

13. Have you been able to access the Social Stream or Chat? I can't
and enjoyed the comments.

14. No, but to honest I haven't tried.
I just try to check on them when I can or when I hear something that sounds interesting.
