The Democratic Guide to Talking Points 101
Ten years was not a long time ago. That was the year we experienced the 9/11 disaster. George W Bush was pResident. Ten years from now, you will not be able to get Medicare as we now know it. Instead, you will be given a government voucher under the new premium system of Paul Ryan and the Republicans. Good luck trying to find a doctor. Especially if you have a pre-existing condition or life-threatening disease. The Republicans are attempting to reform Medicare as we know it. Will you be able to pay for your stay in a nursing home? Do you really think the Republicans have your best interests at heart?

Paul Ryan and the Repubs want to cut the top tax rate on the wealthy once again. In the Ryan plan, they want to cut the rate to 25% from the present 35%. Congressman Ryan says they would need to do that if they close the loopholes for the wealthy. That would prevent them from raising revenues to balance the deficit. By their calculations, revenues would remain the same. God forbid if the wealthy were asked to sacrifice just a little during this time of crisis. We have tried cutting taxes to increase jobs and each time it has been tried, the deficits have skyrocketed and few jobs were created. "Trickle down" is a failure. It is time to put it under the ground and throw dirt on it.

The Republicans now say that the deficits are a "crisis". If it is, much of the crisis was caused by taxcuts for the wealthy, two expensive wars that were unpaid for, and an expensive Medicare prescription drug plan which was a sop to the insurance industry. Let's fix the cause before we start pointing fingers. Republicans have no credibility on this subject.

How many times did we increase the debt limit under Bush? At least five times and many other times, they asked that additional tens of billions of dollars be approved for their wars off the books. It was nothing short of a disgrace.

Democrats need to have a few talking points on hand when discussing these budget plans and foolish Republican ideas.
