Milwaukee County seeks deeper cuts from Union
http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/120042179.html

So cutting pay and benefits by a million dollars a month will improve the economy?????

<snip>

The largest union representing Milwaukee County workers failed to renew a contract for more than two years after its old pact expired.

Now, the county is moving to swiftly impose even stiffer concessions than it had sought earlier on 3,500 members of District Council 48 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

The givebacks include higher health care costs, employee pension contributions of 6% of salary, a pay freeze and restrictions on overtime pay. They exceed concessions Walker had sought from the union as county executive, a job he left after his election as governor in November.

The concessions applied to the AFSCME workers will save the county an estimated $13 million through next year - assuming the state law is implemented by July, according to county figures.

2. Ah yes, destroy the unions is the No. 1 item on a totalitarian regime's
list of things to do to get control of a nation. Number 2 is bribe the judges and supreme courts. While No. 3 is rig the elections.

3. AFSCME should demand that in exchange for the govt not paying for benefits
that the workers' pay be increased the same amount.

4. Its a really bad time for renewing contracts
Most unions are negotiating with a weak hand, due to the economy. I know of several that have been taken to the cleaners recently.
