Someone explain to me this obsessive hatred by the Reichwing against the poor? |
|
You know, like in the simplest terms possible… After watching this I'm really pissed off right now: I’m not sure who watches these Saturday morning "business" shows on Fox besides those of us that monitor the media on a regular basis, but I’ve got to wonder just who the producers of Fox’s horrid Cashin’ In think they’re appealing to with segments like this?… http://www.politicsplus.org/blog/?p=4606

4. Historically, the Republican Party has never been concerned |
|
with the poor. Their Constituency that they aim to please and the constituency they will go to mats for is the Rich and Business, especially Big Business. They believe if someone is poor it is their own fault. Right now the stories are out about how the Rich and Business pay hardly any taxes by the time they take all their exemptions etc. It appears Fox is doing all it can to make the poor look bad to even up the score. Raising Taxes on the Upper Income has brought out the slings and arrows.

5. They have a giant money |
|
making system designed to profit in the most efficient way possible. The easiest way to get money is to take it from people who are suffering from some traumatic event. And if you want to shoot nitrous into the engine of capitalism all you have to do is create misery and trauma.
The Shock Doctrine may be the most import book of the twenty first century.
*This may be a fact free response since I can't play flash on an android phone I hate to miss a chance to plug the book. :)

6. It is just the ever-present class war since Reagan |
|
Starting with Reagan, the GOP has successfully mainstreamed the idea that the "poor" are welfare cheaters, parasites, lazy, etc.. While anecdotes of such examples have been out there forever, under Reagan a large, susceptible block of voters were made to believe the anecdotes were the norms and not the exceptions. Therefore to many, it really riles them up to think that lazy cheaters are getting something for nothing at taxpayers expense.
There is more than a hint as racism in what has evolved in this meme. It has been an offshoot of this crapola that many of the same ilk blame the financial crisis on "irresponsible" poor people who took out loans they couldn't afford that caused the financial crisis (never mind that the banksters preyed upon people to oversell these loans and then bundle them in what created totally bullshit paper windfalls for themselves).
And of course, given this bullshit bogeyman to blame for all the financial ills, it provides a smokescreen for the GOP to stick it up the very asses of the vulnerable, susceptible people they have brainwashed. It's a Republican mindfuck that is stunning in its 30-year success.

13. Funny, that. There are DUers who have insinuated I am a fraud, cheat, lazy, etc. |
|
Maybe they were "Raygun Democrats"?
The point is.... DUers want to always blame the RW... bashing poor people is happening on all sides.
Hating isn't worse than ignoring.

8. Simple. Yes, they hate the poor |
|
and the poor must be eliminated. Currently, "the king", whomever that might be, church, television, government, tell us who the evil ones are. Conservatives believe the poor are poor because god is displeased with them. They must be punished and destroyed.
It's all about the story that we have lived with for the last 8000 or so years.
About 8000 years ago, a story developed that there was a great male god who crushed a nasty female goddess. This is the story that we currently support. And it means we are to live by crushing out evil forces. The "good life" is the virtuous forces crushing out the evil forces. So how do we support that? By making punishment a sport that gives us pleasure.
We have all been a part of that. Until we change the story that lives within each of us and has been nourished for 8000 years by the spilling of blood, nothing about that punishment/dominator model will change.
And if you have ever looked at a conservative as an enemy, you are running the same programmed story. I'm working on changing the story in my life, but it's not easy. It takes searching one's heart, support of friends and community, and practicing a new way of compassionate communication. Our way out of the mess we're in, is together.

14. "practicing a new way of compassionate communication. " May it be so! |
|
That is the only way there is, yet it is something that very few people have any interest in.
Being superior and snarking is so much more fun.
Good luck to you on that... I hope you find people who are willing to make that much of a change within themselves!

10. Perhaps it is their strong Calvinistic roots |
|
The elect (those predestined for heaven) are marked by certain things in this life and poverty is not one of them. Therefore the poor are destined for Hell and are not to be helped or valued as human beings.

11. They hate the poor because . . . |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-18-11 06:31 PM by Brigid
they live in a fantasy world in which hard work and frugality automatically propel one from poverty to at least middle class status. Since said hard work and frugality are considered great virtues (and rightly so), they see themselves as somehow morally superior to those below them on the socioeconomic ladder. They conveniently forget the fact that many of them or their ancestors made the family fortune through shady means. The poor, through their very existence, challenge this world view -- after all, so many in the same boat can't all be lazy spendthrifts and/or drunks, now can they?
It doesn't help that hard work and frugaltiy really are the best shots and improving your life, and that this country does have plenty of examples of it. It's just that it isn't quite that simple -- especially these days, with the economy still so shaky.
