Atlas Shrugged Part 1 tanked at the box office
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart

Rio was #1, making over $39 million in receipts this weekend, 3826 theaters at $10,252 per screen.

Lincoln Lawyer, which is the movie I saw this weekend, made over $2.8 million this weekend, it was at 1,702 theaters, and only made $1695 per screen average but it is in its 5th week release.

Atlas Shrugged Part 1 made less than $1.7 million on a $10 million budget. It was in 299 theaters. $5640 per screen average. It was the 14th most watched movie.

Insidious only had a $1.5 million budget, but made $6.7 million this weekend, on its 3rd week of release.

Looks like Atlas Shrugged Part 1 is a flop! I wonder if they'll make their money back. They probably will - places like Regnery always lose money but have bulk orders and the like anyhow.

2. Not knowing 'Regnery' I looked it up and now need to shower.
Here's the leading book on their site: “GANGSTER GOVERNMENT”
Columnist Michael Barone invented the phrase.
President Obama has perfected the practice.

4. 10 million dollar budget.. they went in knowing
Edited on Mon Apr-18-11 04:29 PM by walldude
they would profit. Foreign Sales and DVD rights probably put them in the black before it was even released. They knew their audience would see any piece of shit they put together if it said Atlas Shrugged on the marquee. So they pushed out the cheapest piece of shit they could and sat back to wait for the suckers.

6. Beware this argument

It had a good per screen average.

Right-wingers claimed "An American Tale" did better than "Religulous" at the box office because it made more gross it's opening week, when it played on about a thousand more screens. But "Religulous" had an amazing per screen average.

Obviously, it is a bomb because the budget is ridiculous, but it's not like there isn't an audience. There was no way on 299 screens it could ever make the top ten. Of course, the complaint is "the librul art houses won't play it".
