Poll question: Will DU Criticize Pelosi as they do President Obama?
According to this article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/18/john-boehner-doma-doj-funds_n_850689.html

...It appears Nancy Pelosi might be siding with Boehner on forcing the DOJ to pay for the so-called act of defending marriage.

QUESTION: If she does side with Boehner will she be attacked or "criticized" for an obvious act of turning her back on Progressive Values much like President Obama has been attacked on almost a daily basis for a whole range of issues...What I really am asking is will the Greatest thread Page be filled with heated vitriol like that aimed at President Obama when they attack him?

No Greatest Thread for Pelosi allowing the Health Care Bill to be voted on & passed.

No Greatest Thread when she allowed the Tax Compromise to be voted on & passed.

Will this time be different? Especially since this can't be placed only on Obama like the above was.

For the record I LOVE NANCY PELOSI...However, she should be attacked "criticized" in the same fashion Obama gets "criticized" here on DU NO EXCEPTIONS! However, that has yet to happen & that is why I am asking this question.

2. umm you might want to get some more facts here Mr.?Ms?Mrs.... Pelosi wants to know from Boner how
much his defense is going to cost the taxpayers. She is NOT siding with Boner to force the DOJ to pay so far as more in depth sources have claimed.

I didn't vote in your poll. She's been criticized quite a lot around here, but with the caps, it appears that you want to have a fit...so go ahead. I won't participate.

15. Will the DOJ be as willing to "defend marriage" if it is on the hook for the $$ and no longer has

a blank check from the House?

In either situation taxpayer money will be used to defend that shitty homophobic law as long as Republicans and their neoliberal enablers (Obama, et. al) have an ounce of political power.

Its a smart move by Pelosi to make the DOJ accountable for the $$ they spend defending DOMA.

16. Well I didn't vote in the poll because I have no idea
what the sense of DU will be on this matter. But the fact is I HAVE seen Nancy criticized on DU before. Several times as a matter of fact. Not as much as Obama of course. But Pelosi is not considered the head of the Dem Party either.

19. Other: this sounds like a veiled "all you gay people like Pelosi/Clinton and hate Obama" threads.
And frankly it irritates the shit out of me.

Obama was an asshole for cynically backing homophobic policies for as long as he did, then suddenly seeing the light just as he was on the cusp of losing LGBT Democrats forever.
Pelosi is a scumbag for supporting these policies.

You want criticisms of these milquetoast, fair-weather friends that the Democrats have become. Oh I've got plenty... They are the "lesser evil" after all. I've got plenty of criticisms if you're in the market...

And you've been here long enough to know it.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/02/23/305018/-Why-I-say-ugh-on-Kucinich

2. Did you know that Kucinich was once ardently anti-choice and anti-stem cell research? From a 2002 Nation article:

One thing you won't find on Kucinich's website, though, is any mention of his opposition to abortion rights. In his two terms in Congress, he has quietly amassed an anti-choice voting record of Henry Hyde-like proportions. He supported Bush's reinstatement of the gag rule for recipients of US family planning funds abroad. He supported the Child Custody Protection Act, which prohibits anyone but a parent from taking a teenage girl across state lines for an abortion. He voted for the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which makes it a crime, distinct from assault on a pregnant woman, to cause the injury or death of a fetus. He voted against funding research on RU-486. He voted for a ban on dilation and extraction (so-called partial-birth) abortions without a maternal health exception. He even voted against contraception coverage in health insurance plans for federal workers--a huge work force of some 2.6 million people (and yes, for many of them, Viagra is covered). Where reasonable constitutional objections could be raised--the lack of a health exception in partial-birth bans clearly violates Roe v. Wade, as the Supreme Court ruled in Stenberg v. Carhart--Kucinich did not raise them; where competing principles could be invoked--freedom of speech for foreign health organizations--he did not bring them up. He was a co-sponsor of the House bill outlawing all forms of human cloning, even for research purposes, and he opposes embryonic stem cell research. His anti-choice dedication has earned him a 95 percent position rating from the National Right to Life Committee, versus 10 percent from Planned Parenthood and 0 percent from NARAL.

His transformation to being pro-choice happened literally overnight -- a week after he announced his 2004 presidential bid. One moment he was virulently anti choice, the next he was a staunch defender.

41. Debunked a thousand times. Sometimes, you just have to face the facts.
Some people change their POV as they gather new information.

Rep. Kucinich was anti-choice at one time.

He changed his mind and POV after processing new information.

Intelligent people often change their POV as they gather new information.

Think about this.

She lost me when impeachment disappeared from her magic table. And she's spent way too much time practicing that god-damned bipartisanship -- AKA, sucking up to petty tyrants -- for my liking.

29. Welcome to DU!
I see you are a bit of a n00b having joined in 2009. Before the Democratic primary for the Presidency heated up, Pelosi was pretty much public enemy number 1 at DU. There was a brief honeymoon after she became speaker, but for most of 2007, according to DU, Pelosi wasn't doing anything right. She was almost as hated as, as, that Harry Reid fellow, a guy who also enjoyed a brief honeymoon after he replaced the spineless Daschle, but was quickly found to be very much wanting.

It was so bad that I took to displaying a Pelosi icon where I now sport the NY Jets, and I wrote this post to complain about all the Pelosi/Democrats bashing on DU. http://journals.democraticunderground.com/hfojvt/51

So I find the suggestion that DU might not treat Pelosi like a pinyata to be quite laughable.

Of course, there are many new people here since those bad old days, and many oldsters are no longer with us, for one reason or another, but there is still much contempt of Democratic leaders. We focus more on Obama now, perhaps because the Presidency seems a little bit more important than a Speaker of the House, or a House minority leader.

on Bush.

IMO she abandoned her responsibility to provide a check on Executive power and her negligence allowed much of what Bush Co ended up doing.

35. There needs to be an option to vote 'This poll is intened to
divide Democrats and smear minorities the OFA is famous for not liking much'. I'd have voted that way.
Or one that said 'This poll is made by someone who does not recall impeachment 'off the table' by Pelosi and the ensuing storm of criticism.'
