Duke Lacrosse accuser indicted on murder charge (from AP).
Edited on Tue Apr-19-11 02:10 PM by anneboleyn
I just saw this story and thought I would post the link here, instead of LBN, for discussion. The woman who accused the three Duke Lacrosse players of rape in 2006, Crystal Mangum (her name is stated in the AP story), has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of her boyfriend, Reginald Daye.

Earlier today we were discussing sexual harassment and sexual assault cases and how these cases are handled by universities (specifically Yale).

Excerpt from the AP story:

RALEIGH, N.C. – The woman who falsely accused three Duke lacrosse players of raping her in 2006 was charged Monday with murder in the death of her boyfriend.

Crystal Mangum, 32, was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of larceny. She has been in jail since April 3, when police charged her with assault in the stabbing of 46-year-old Reginald Daye. He died after nearly two weeks at a hospital.

An attorney for Mangum did not return a call seeking comment. The district attorney's office declined to discuss the case.

1. "Friends said Mangum has never recovered from the stigma brought on by the lacrosse case"???
So, once again, they're trying to shift the blame from Mangum herself to the Lacrosse players.

2. I'm sure it's difficult being her.

But I'm more concerned about Reginald Daye being dead, and who could be next if she doesn't stay locked up.

4. Thank you for the LBN thread. I searched but didn't find it.
Sorry for a dupe thread. I agree with you about Reginald Daye.

5. This dupe thread is just fine.
And it's a lot more civil, at least so far.

6. First, four paragraphs is the rule to avoid copyright infringement.
Second, I just love the juxtaposition of your name against that of a woman accused of...so much.

I love irony.

7. Yes! Anne Boleyn was accused of nearly every crime imaginable
at the time. The accusation of incest with her brother was the most outrageous. Thanks for the heads-up regarding the copyright issue. I edited the post so as to respect the DU rules and avoid any problems. My apologies. I am still new to posting (I have visited this site for years but started posting consistently recently) so I am still learning the rules. But I will be more careful.

8. She was clearly traumatized from the ordeal of making all those false accusations.

After all she has been through, she deserves our pity and support, not condemnation.
