Gov. Jindal will sign 'birther' bill if it reaches his desk
BATON ROUGE -- Gov. Bobby Jindal would sign a bill requiring presidential candidates to provide a copy of their birth certificate to qualify for the Louisiana ballot if it reaches his desk, a spokesman said Monday.

A spokesman says Gov. Bobby Jindal will sign a bill to require presidential candidates to provide a birth certificate as proof of citizenship.

"It's not part of our package, but if the Legislature passes it we'll sign it," press secretary Kyle Plotkin said.

House Bill 561 was filed last week by two Republican lawmakers. President Barack Obama's citizenship has been challenged by some groups, derisively called "birthers," despite numerous independent investigations finding that documents and contemporary news reports show that Obama was born in Hawaii.

The bill by state Rep. Alan Seabaugh, R-Shreveport, and Sen. A.G. Crowe, R-Slidell, would require federal candidates who want to appear on Louisiana ballots to file an affidavit attesting to their citizenship, which would have to be accompanied by an "original or certified copy" of their birth certificate.

The requirement also would apply to candidates for U.S. Senate or the House of Representatives.

A similar bill was recently passed by the Arizona legislature.

5. Does Jindal get that such laws would be selectively applied to people like him
and his family?

6. I wonder when
someone whose house (with all its belongings) was washed away during Katrina...no longer has an original birth certificate. To say nothing of people whose homes burned down, adoptees and people who moved around a lot (Obama) and papers got lost. This is NUTS and really will be found unconstitutional. Where was Jindal born? I guess they are forgetting that the copy of Obama's certificate of live birth is a certified copy.

8. You know, really let them sign this shit into law
And then let the birthers freak out when the state has to go by the damn certificate has from Hawaii. Let the birthers waste state funds tying it up in a lawsuit, because they are so stupid and don't believe the form that's on the damn internet.

At least Brewer vetoed it, probably knowing the long term cost associated with the lawsuits that Arizona would incur.

10. He admits he was conceived in India, sooooo...
if life begins at conception, wouldn't that mean that little Bobby wouldn't be eligible for the Presidency because he got his start in India? ;)

15. big deal
Obama should have a copy of his birth certificate delivered to the signing ceremony. Congratulate them on their dedication to the Constitution and point out a few other parts of it they may want to look at next.

16. Barack Obama has an official certification of live birth from the state of Hawaii...
it is just plain stupid for these idiots to keep asking for more. Can anyone remember the last time they held their own actual birth certificate? For years, I remember using an old photocopy, then later using an official certification of live birth. I guess I'm not a citizen either. I've never seen the actual piece of paper.

The thing is: it's just a piece of paper! Kind of like paper money. A dollar bill is only worth something if we all agree it has worth. Otherwise, it's just a piece of paper. Hawaii says Obama was born there, his family says he was born there, the newspapers say he was born there. If you need more, you're splitting hairs and are obviously an idiot. What makes you a citizen anyway: a piece of paper or being born here?! Nothing will ever prove to these people a fantasy they want to believe is untrue.
