Citing immigration reform, liberal House Dem might not back Obama in 2012
A liberal House Democrat warned on Monday that he could withhold support for President Obama next year if the White House doesn't do more on immigration reform.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez, who represents sections of Obama's political base of Chicago, told MSNBC he wants to root for Obama in 2012, but the president's record on immigration reform has left the Illinois Democrat weighing his options. Gutierrez said he remains "undecided" about his favored candidate next year.

"I want to support Barack Obama for reelection," Gutierrez told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell. "But the lack of progress on immigration reform and the lack of action that Barack Obama, our president, has — the discretion he has — is really making that job difficult for me.”

Gutierrez made similar remarks over the weekend.

2. No one is going to touch immigration reform while our unemployment is high.
It just won't happen.

4. At least not the kind of reform he's been advocating for years
The only reform that might pass in this high unemployment atmosphere is one that would be just the opposite, where they all got sent home to free up those few jobs.

He really doesnt know when to pick his fights, does he?

5. I think he's on to something.
I walk petitions to get candidates on the ballot for the party every June (NY). Some of the homes I hit are Latin American. I've been told both of the last two years that they were hoping for immigration changes. It hasn't worked out and doesn't look likely for the rest of this congressional term either.

I don't know that hispanics will abandon Obama. He is still by far their best hope for significant change. It's not his fault Reid and Pelosi didn't bring up the issue. But there is some disappointment out there. Hopefully Obama can get some changes passed after 2012.

Gutierrez would be an idiot to not support Obama. Does he believe he'll get better treatment from the republicans? If he does, he's clueless. And BTW, how many immigration bills has he written?

6. Well, Obama said he wanted to be held accountable.
That silly Gutierrez must've believed him.
