Help -- I think I just got dinged by an E-Mail, and not sure what to do
Hope it's okay to put this in the GD forum, but I figured with so many bright people I might get a pointer on this. (And maybe it'll help someone else too.)

I was just going through my e-mail on Yahoo. I'm usually very cautious to avoid opening attachments from people I don't know, especially those things supposedly from UPS, some bank, etc. And fortunately, most of them automatically get routed by Yahoo into the Spam box.

However, one from the "FCC" got into my main Inbox. I clicked on the title as I was scrolling down, and a little bubble poped upo that said "hi" and had to be clicked to close...It also had a PDF file attached to it.

I'd never seen an e-mail be so proactive before,in putting up a pop-up without clicking on an attachment, and now i wonder if I just got infected with a Trojan Horse or something.

Anyone heard of this, or what to do to find out if it was an infection and what to do?

(I do have an anti-0virus program, which I will runb, but I'm not sure it covers this one.)

Any advice would be appreciated.

19. Probably not an issue with Win 7 and AV.
Especially if UAC is turned on. You can install MalwareBytes and do a scan. Sounds like there's no issue though.

3. Turn on the "Block Graphics in Email" option in Yahoo Mail.
Problem solved.

12. Was it a graphic?
I dunno. Alt-F4 closes down most open windows in all versions of Microsoft Windows. You see something you are suspicious of, press Alt-F4. That almost always gets rid of the noxious thing. If it doesn't you want to hope you have an effective anti-malware and virus thing running in the background.

21. It was one of those instructional pop ups (can;t remember the name of it)
It looked like one of those things that comes up sometimes when your computer is trying to tell you something....There's a real name for it but it is slipping my mind

23. Look at the browser you're using, and go to it's Options
menu. Turn off the option that lets your browser run scripts. That will screw up some websites you may visit, but should stop this stuff, too.

Yahoo Mail's Spam filter is very good. I almost never find any emails I want to receive in the spam list. I do look at the spam folder every day, but I look first at the sender. If I don't recognize the sender, I never open the email. I also mark anything that comes to my Inbox folder as spam that is spam. I rarely see anything in my Inbox that is spammy in nature.

6. Webroot
It usually does a good job of blocking things before they happen.

11. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, update it, run it.
Reboot, run it again.

If you have anything significant that should take care of it. The software itself is free.
