7. It really is in tradition a combination of Je- and Che- sounds, "Jch-"

Thus the confusion. But Jenk is closest to the traditional if anglicized. So the answer to your question is it technically should be Jchenk said as one syllable.

...whose name began with the same phoneme.

It also gets transliterated, now as a Gh, now as a J, in German as Dsch....
