I think the President should have some fireside chats with the American people...
At least a couple times a week, he should speak directly to the American people in the most frank terms possible. He should not concern himself with partisanship or bi-partisanship. He should simply tell the truth as he sees it. He should encourage the American people to get behind him, regardless of Party.

Both political Parties have stalled in their ability to govern. One out of spite and one out of incompetence. We must look for change.

This may sound naive but what other ideas are out there? We have to mobilize the people against these partisan divides. We must govern in their interests. The truth must be told. The cynical politicians must feel the wrath of voters. The voters are being deceived and they must understand how they are being used for political purposes.

If not the President, then who? Who will tell the people the stark truth? Who will explain in terms they can understand? Who can challenge them to take off their Democratic and Republican hats and look at it as Americans. Our country needs a leader.

2. Perhaps we are putting too much stock in elections?
They don't seem to be all they say they are?

4. The real government is not up for a vote.
Elections are for the interface to execute their will and to give the illusion of self determination.

5. I agree
but am not sure the people who would need to be listening to him would actually be listening and the next day we would be bombarded with sounds bites selected and edited by the corporate media. I am sorry I am so negative this evening.

8. Give them plenty of soundbites.
Let them founder. Keep talking to the American people until they see what is happening.

10. That's different.
He needs to be more focused on the raw truth and he needs to bring the people to his side to defeat this enemy.

13. It is a weekly address and he speaks directly to the American people - just like a fireside chat.
So, no it is not different.

Just because you might think that he is not being forceful enough does not take away from the fact that he is doing a weekly fireside chat.
