Just when I thought I had seen the worst from the republicans
Remember Virgil Peck? The KS rep who wants to shoot immigrants from helicopters? Yesterday Rep. Barbara Ballard, D-Lawrence, made a plea to add $500,000 to the final budget bill “to take care of public assistance recipients who die without funds so that they can be taken care of in dignity.”

Peck said, “I don’t believe this is the state’s responsibility.” And, he said, people need to prepare for burial expenses.

“Everyone who is alive today knows they are going to pass away,” he said.

So if you're poor in Kansas, make sure you have a burial plan. :sarcasm:

5. I've already told my wife not to give me an expensive funeral if I die first
I told her she could get a cardboard box that a new refrigerator was delivered in, put me in it, take me to the river and throw me in. What the hell will I care? I'll be dead.

6. Let me guess....he also proclaims himself to de a devout Christian, amirite?
Funny thing, that. I'm pretty much an agnostic on religion and I certainly don't don't claim any piety or certitude on the subject, but I seem to recall something about Christ saying, "what you do to the least, you do to me."

I'm pretty sure that Republicans, by their political, economic nature are actually anti-christians. If I believed in a Judgemental God, I'd say these folks would be in big trouble when their expiration date arrives. But I don't...and I'm pretty sure most of these people, while publicly identifying with 'christian values', don't really believe either.

10. They are as unChristian as I can fathom, although we're really not supposed to judge.
But I swear, the holiest-of-the-holier-than-thous NEVER hesitate to shove their bible (sometimes I spell it buy-bull) under our noses and down our throats. But not one of them has EVER quoted from The Beatitudes. You'd think that'd be first or second on their list. That's the passage in which Jesus is quoted as saying "Blessed are the poor in spirit..." and "Blessed are the peacemakers..." and "Blessed are the meek..." There's NOWHERE in The Beatitudes (or anywhere else in the New Testament) where he went easy on the rich and the assholes. There was NO passage in The Beatitudes that EVER said anything remotely like "Blessed are the rich..." or "Blessed are the warmakers..." or "Blessed are the bullies..." NOWHERE.

The Beatitudes in the Gospel of Matthew (5:3-12)
And in the Gospel of Luke (6:20-26)

15. The republicans are fake christians. They use the guise of religion as a ploy
to manipulate their flocks so as to get their vote, for example, beware of the devil in disguise. I'm not a religious person, but I know enough to realize the perverted game the republicans are playing.

19. You should check into the costs for that.
We found that there were transortation expenses we hadn't anticipated. The University here doesn't pay for transportation costs or do cremations.

never get there any other way, lol. I certainly don't want my kids to have to worry about how to pay for my funeral when they're barely getting by. The one who graduated with honors from college last year is currently working at U-Haul because he can't find a real job; they sure don't need to worry about what to do with me when I'm dead and gone. It so sucks that we have to not only worry about how to live, but how to die, too. I hope you find something that'll work for you, too.

12. Won't He be pissed when he finds out he's going to lose his lifetime EUROPEAN health benefits
retirement benefits, they cost us half a trillion a year, and part of that big fat paycheck they covet so much! I've read a few articles and blogs that promote the removal of congress' benefits even if the people end up with universal. These people are rich, they can afford to pay for their own health insurance and they don't have to save for retirement because many of them come from old money so they inherit their billions, they don't work hard for it like 99% of the country has to!

Republicans have EUROPEAN cradle to grave care and they have rendered American's lives worthless because any money to save their lives is being GIVEN AWAY to billionaires and corporations!

This man shouldn't be in charge of a dog pound! His disregard FOR ANY AMERICAN'S LIFE is unacceptable. I hope they fire his arse!!!

Are you talking about an elaborate funeral in a fancy parlor?

No. Those are businesses. Sleazeball rip off ones at that.

Not a taxpayer responsibility at any stretch of the imagination to encapsulate a corpse in a $6000 satin and shiny metal and chrome box with pretty handles.

It's not like people who died without funds haven't always had those expenses quietly taken care of.

How many bodies have you seen on the street?

But taxes funding the funeral vultures? fuck no.

32. I did read it.
It seems death profiteers are seeking a higher allowance for a service they are legally obligated to provide anyway.

Taking on a certain percentage of the communities "john/jane doe" burials are part of the responsibilities accepted with the granting of the license.

It's not like the bodies are going to be left in the street to rot.

Do you seriously expect a reasonable person to believe that would happen?

The death profiteers just want more money.

Yeah. Maybe $400 is cutting their profit margin a tad short for draining a body of blood, cramming it with formaldehyde stuffing it in a $75 pine box. But they could always skim some of the profits they charged the Jones' family for the $4000 5 mile hearse ride to the graveyard with gramma.

34. It's a part of their contract with the community that they provide this needed service.
No bodies are going to be left in the street.

They just want a bigger cut for something they are obligated to do by their license.
