Fukushima nuke workers at risk of depression, overwork death
TOKYO, April 20, Kyodo

Tokyo Electric Power Co. workers engaged in efforts to stabilize the crisis-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant are at risk of depression or death from overwork, a doctor who recently saw them said Wednesday.

Workers engaged in stabilizing the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant rest on the floor of a gymnasium of the Fukushima Daini nuclear plant, some 10 kilometers away from the troubled site, during the evening of April 18, 2011. The Tokyo Electric Power Co. workers, who return to the gym at the end of each day to rest, are provided with sleeping bags, blankets and insulation sheets. (COURTESY of TAKESHI TANIGAWA) (Kyodo)

1. Oh, these poor, dear workers - heartbreaking. Saw a show (Date Line, 60 minutes?)
not long ago...the Chilean miners are not doing well at all. One fellow - for reasons he cannot explain - started building a concrete-block wall in his back yard, for what reason? He doesn't know.

Trauma, big celebrations, then - "what now"?

Bless our dear, over-worked, stunned workers of the World. They'll never be the same.
- S

3. I guess I would be depressed too
The complete story has been posted in the Japan Times: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20110420x1.html

"More than 80 percent of the on-site employees have their homes within a 20-km radius of the nuclear plant and some of them have lost family members," he said, adding that concerns about their houses and lives will likely continue to distress them."It was also stressful for some workers who were unable to confirm the safety of families for as long as a week to continue working," he said. "On the other hand, they tend to feel indebted for working for an offending company and so cannot raise their voices."
