Here where I live, we are once again dealing with a major flood and the city department of public works employees, who are members of AFSCME are doing a fabulous job of trying to keep the Mighty Mississippi back and keep businesses in the flooded area open. One in particular is a brew pub which now almost literally sits on the river. I stopped by7 last night and had a cold one. It was delicious and the owner said she will keep it open as long as humanly possible. The reason they are still open and serving good brew and food is because of the hard work of Union people, the city employees who are doing 12 hour shifts. And the local Minor League ball park, which also sits next to the river is still hosting ball games because the Union members built a berm and erected a temporary bridge to allow passage into the park. So if I hear any teahadists griping about paying taxes to "those no good money grubbing Union people" I am going to remind them about these men and women who are busting their tails to keep things going in Davenport, Iowa. And I imagine that there are many hard working Union people all the way up and down the river doing similar duties. Kudos to all of them. :applause: Pics and videos at www.qctimes.com and www.kwqc.com

1. I never noticed that you live in Davenport. |

I'm not that far away, and will be there next week for a 17th District Democratic event. You guys have a vital Democratic organization in the Quad Cities. I wish the same was true where I live.
