personal odd experience after the story on priestly abuse on Frontline
last night.
I recorded the show and just watched it. Brought back a lot of thoughts from my own experience.
So out of curiosity I went to the SNAP website to see if the priest who had abused me was there and if he had been accused by any others.
I did find him, but while I was there I ran across another accused priest - my HS principal.

I had heard last year that one of my best friends from HS was suing the priest and the school over the abuse. I had sent this guy an email asking if he wanted some corroboration, I would be there for him. While I was not "abused" by that priest, it wasn't because he didn't try.
Well I took some time to go back and read some of the stories on the lawsuit. I was surprised to find that he had many co-suers. The stories almost read like our HS yearbook. My memories of HS are not good, mostly because of this. After HS I have avoided old classmates with a passion mostly because of the abuse.

So as I was reading these stories I once again got extremely angry. I am using DU to vent and calm down. Thank you for listening.
The abuse caused a big rift in my family that lasted until the day my parents died. I am very, very distrustful of most any authority. This has caused some problems in the past.
Thanks once again for listening.

Vent all you need.

(I don't usually use hug smileys, because I'm from Minnesota, so you can imagine a smiley of someone sitting quietly, and maybe offering an arm pat in a friendly manner, along with a cup of coffee and a bar.)

6. Hee!
I grew up elsewhere, married a guy from Duluth, and promptly picked up his accent (I'm a linguistic chameleon). Our kids have HUGE NE MN accents; it cracks me up.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I saw some of that on Frontline last night.

Whether or not you were *abused* does not excuse his violation(s) on you for trying in any way whatsoever! In fact, even trying alone can be considered abuse.

Carrying around shame that doesn't belong to you is probably one of the worse things in the world.

Someone once said: "THEY try to make YOU WEAR who THEY ARE".

I hope that more light continues to shine on these secret atrocities. The film producer, Tyler Perry recently came out on Oprah - a month or so ago? (along with many other men in the audience who were abused also as children)....(it's sadly more widespread than one would think...) and together all are breaking this awful silence which have kept so many paralyzed for way too long and in fact, it is this very idea of secrecy and shame and *authority* in which the perps depend on - so by stepping forward today as you are doing and breaking the silence is one courageous step!!!

Vent Away!!!!!

...just one thing to consider is working through the justifiable rage.
