Bachmann: Obama certificate ‘should settle’ birther issue

Tea party favorite Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has officially moved to the left of Donald Trump.

The Minnesota Republican told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos Wednesday that the certificate of live birth released by then-candidate Barack Obama in 2008 should satisfy “birthers” who don’t believe he is a natural born U.S. citizen.

“I have the president’s certificate right here,” Stephanopoulos told her. “It’s certified, it’s got a certification number. It’s got the registrar of the state signed. It’s got a seal on it. And it says ‘this copy serves as prima facie evidence of the fact of birth in any court proceeding.’”

“Well then that should settle it,” she said.

5. I watched her on some show last night and she didn't appear to

be backing away from it at all. What it looked like she was doing, was trying to eat her cake and have it too.

She said that the issue wasn't worth pursuing when we have so many other issues to address, but she kept putting the burden on Obama, as in, "he needs to just show his birth certificate so that the country can move on."

Since he has already provided his birth certificate, I took those statements to mean that he should provide something else. So on the one hand she was trying to back away by saying the issue isn't big enough to bother with, but at the same time she implied that the document that we all know about isn't good enough.
