‘Restrepo’ Director Is Killed in Libya
BENGHAZI, Libya — Tim Hetherington, the Oscar-nominated film director and conflict photographer who produced the film “Restrepo,” was killed in the besieged city of Misurata on Wednesday, and three photographers working beside him were wounded.

The wounds to two of the photographers — Chris Hondros and Guy Martin — were grave, according to a colleague at the triage center where they were being treated Wednesday night. Their prospects for survival were not immediately clear.

3. Yeah
I had no idea they were in Libya. I thought Restrepo was powerful and was very deserving of the Oscar nomination.

2. This is so horrible. Also, it seems that the very gifted war photographer
Chris Hondos didn't make it. He took amazing 9/11 pictures of the WTC and also did work in Iraq that was so good, the Pentagon kicked him out of the unit he was embedded with.

:(

10. What a loss
My heart goes out to his family and friends. Quite a dedicated artist. Born in Liverpool. He did receive the Grand Jury Prize for best doc.,Restrepo, at the Sundance Film Festival.

He will be sorely missed

In 2009, Hetherington worked with CNN.com to produce this audio slideshow with photos he shot during his coverage of the the war in Afghanistan.
