"The Family Circus"
Edited on Wed Apr-20-11 06:42 PM by kpete

Although Bil Keane's "The Family Circus" has been an institutional comic since the 1960s, it didn't become incredibly funny until the Internet got a hold of it. Now, re-captioning "Family Circus" cartoons has reached its pinnacle level, with The Onion Features Editor Joe Garden compiling an entire book of hilarious captions by hilarious people -- for charity.

3. LOL!! we used to do this to the "Love is... cartoons.
Friend has a scrapbook full. Good for them, Family Circus is full of dead ideas. (sorry hold-outs) you believe in horseshit.

The non-propaganda Jeffy's travels were pretty cool tho.

And time marches on...

4. OK, so that's a bit harsh.
And exagerated. Whatever.

It's still much funnier the new way.

7.  I got to know Bil Keane during a long weekend at the National
Cartoonist Society awards. I had already met him several times before, as I've worked with one of his kids. Bil usually MC's the event because of his quick wit and often biting sense of humor-which is quite unlike what we see in "The Family Circus". My grandparents loved his panels but I always loathed them. I was pleasantly surprised that he made me laugh so hard that I was in tears when he delivered his monologue.
