First will come the surgery to repair Catherine Ann Scott-Gonzalez’s fractured jaw.

Then ,doctors will determine how to go about repairing her nose that’s broken in several places.

Her vision remains blurry, and the headaches will not go away -- neither will the heartache.

Nearly a week after suffering a brutal beating at the hands of her ex-husband during a divorce hearing in the Broward County Courthouse, Scott, 23, continues to recuperate at home. The incident, however, has sparked an uproar among domestic violence victim advocacy groups about how security is handled at sensitive court hearings.

“That something like this could happen in a courthouse, a place of law, where you are suppose to feel protected begs the question about what we’re doing as a society to protect domestic violence victims,” said Angela Diaz-Vidaillet, chief executive officer of The Lodge- a Miami-Dade based battered women’s shelter.
