Yadayadayada: Trump blasts Seinfeld pullout
Edited on Thu Apr-21-11 06:33 AM by no_hypocrisy
Donald Trump wasn't laughing when funnyman Jerry Seinfeld canceled an upcoming appearance at a benefit for his son's Eric Trump Foundation.

Seinfeld pulled out of the Sept. 13 event benefiting the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital because he disagrees with The Donald's questioning of Barack Obama's citizenship, his reps said.

"I just learned you canceled a show for my son's charity," Trump fired off in a scorching letter to Seinfeld yesterday, "because of the fact that I am being very aggressive with respect to President Obama, who is doing an absolutely terrible job as our leader."

-snip-

"Jerry . . . feels this kind of demagoguery has no place in public discourse . . . He has respectfully withdrawn from the event, and is making a contribution both to the Eric Trump Foundation and to (St. Jude)."

1. Good for Jerry Seinfeld!!
I highly doubt Seinfeld would have backed out if Trump was just being critical of Obama's presidential skills but using the birth certificate ploy is just stupid.

42. Right, Trump might have just said those words exactly.
But by completely ignoring the One reason that Seinfeld mentioned, it is pretty obvious to everybody.

2. The MSM will make it their talking point all day and by the end of the day they will have
Seinfeld being portrayed as non charitable and unpatriotic. I can hear Meridith Viera and Savannah Guthrie now.

5. Thank you Jerry
When the donald starts seeing decent people turning their back on him, perhaps he'll get a freeking clue that only the teabaggers and racists (some overlap there, of course) think he's raising a legitimate issue.

11. Interesting guy, that Jerry Seinfeld
I recently read an autobiography of his and from that, I'm not surprised by his action here.

It's not so much that he's a progressive, as he seems to avoid politics and profanity with equal zeal. But it's precisely because he has always avoided politics that he would not want to be even remotely associated with the now toxic Donald.

Not even to support a cause that he probably believes in, which is probably why he chose to compensate for his cancellation by making a donation that will likely be significant.

By the way, Seinfeld's real personality - in his own words - is unashamedly just like his TV series character. But despite coming across as fussy, detached and insensitive, he apparently is and always was a very generous man, not only with his money, but also with his time and reputation. That's coming directly from those who have known him throughout his comedy career, including the cast and crew of his successful series.

So the way I set it ==> generous lucky rich person = likely progressive. It almost always works that way.

24. I always admire celebrites who don't get involved.
Tiger Woods was the same way - you could never get a quote or anything on any of his political viewpoints, he never would take a side and never stood up for anything political or any causes because he just wanted to play golf. Seems similar to what Seinfeld is doing here, he just wants to be funny and help a charity, then Trump comes along and is just trying to get publicity for nefarious reasons - good for Jerry standing up for not having to be involved :)

13. 'Foundation' = SCAM
The wealthy throw a fund-raising 'gala' for their pet causes through a foundation they set up and control that incidentally employs family members, mistresses or boyfriends at enormous salaries while actually giving the charitable organization only a pittance from the proceeds.

Giant tax dodge and scam.

31. correct and also many for-profit business deals are negotiated at such fundraisers.
the "fund raising" part is simply the price of admission to meet with potential business partners.

39. It is worse than a scam
when many of these foundations conduct luxurious galas, they are in fact using the misery of others as an excuse to party.

We live in a sick an twisted world.

27. Note to The Donald:
Jerry didn't cancel because you are being aggressive. He canceled because you are a fucking moron. Really, Don, the only people who believe Obama is not a U.S. citizen are those who were abducted by aliens when they were infants and had their brains replaced with sacks of rancid dog shit - Beck, Limbaugh, Bachmann, hell, just about any republican I can think of.

34. Trump is an idiot, when it comes to this issue..
If he weren't born in this country, (Obama that is) what would that have to do with the job he was doing? Not to mention that he's doing far better than Trump could ever dream of doing.

Seinfeld did the right thing. Whether or not Obama was born in this country is irrelevant. You should distance yourself from a douche bag like Trump.

For the record, I believe Obama was born in America. Obviously.

If I were your neighbor I'd give you a big giddyup just like Kramer.

Trump is losing his mind - which these days seems to be plus over on the right. One of the crazier things from the Donald and others is their saying Obama is a socialist - if only, I wish it were true but far from it.

Comparing where we were 2 years ago at this time, the last months of Bush and BEFORE Obama stimulus;

The Dow was 6500,........... (Now its 12,000+)

The GDP was -6% (MINUS 6%), .................... (Now its +2.5% )

(Businesses had RECORD PROFITS the 3rd quarter of 2010. )

and we were shedding 750,000 jobs a month, .............................(Now we're adding 200,000 jobs a month)

45. It's kinda funny..
.... I used to hear Trump in interviews on a much hated radio show out of NY, and he sounded WAY more like a Democrat than a Republican.

But not now.

I think Trump is nothing more than an opportunist and he'd be perfect for America, a country that has thoroughly lost it's way.
