Students defend male classmate - who wears heels to school

Riverview, Florida -The school dress code sets a standard. So when a male student at Riverview High School decided to wear heels to school on Friday, an assistant principal asked him to take off his shoes.

"It really wasn't a dress code violation but a matter of his own well-being, and if the attire causes disruption," explains Bob Heilmann, principal at Riverview High School.

"It also says you're not supposed to be discriminated against by race, sexuality or religion. If girls can wear heels why can't boys wear heels," says 11th grader Morgan Rodgers, about the dress code policy.

Rodgers says the student has a right to express his sexuality. But Heilmann says this case comes down to safety. "Part of bullying is to try to prevent it whether people make fun of what you are wearing, or your hair. If I can prevent that I will prevent that," says Heilmann

1. This student has a right to do what he did. Does an African American
have to stop being black because that would cause bullying from racists? He took his protest to the source.

2. I personally wouldn't wear heels, but fuck it.
Seriously, the only thing that kid was doing is wearing shoes. Nothing more. If someone wants to pick on him because of it, that's no different than picking on him for any other reason.

People pick on geeks for being geeks, what, should we dress these kids in cool cloths just to appease the bullies?

3. I'm pretty sure the kids know why he's wearing heels
and even if he did it because he just liked wearing them, they can intervene IF anything does happen.

4. I take it that particular pic with that particular finger pointing was deliberate?

5. "part of bullying is to try to prevent it"--by restricting the potential victims, instead of dealing
with the bullies?

6. Principal didn't like the Dress either
Heels and Dress just go together don't they?

This is just more Gender Conformity B.S.
(Heels Day, Crossdress Day, Pink/Blue Day) Where is the harm in that.
Maybe we should all wear Heels/Dresses in protest?

8. If you know the whole story, you would have told the student to take them of, too.

9. if the kid had subsequently been bullied -- would the principal then blame the victim?
"Part of bullying is to try to prevent it whether people make fun of what you are wearing, or your hair. If I can prevent that I will prevent that," says Heilmann
