NH Senate passes right-to-work legislation 16-8
Senators pass right-to-work proposal 16-8

By KEVIN LANDRIGAN

CONCORD – Anti-union forces scored a historic victory Wednesday, as the state Senate embraced legislation that prevents non-union members from having to financially support a union.

The 16-8 vote for the House-passed bill (HB 474) was precisely the two-thirds supermajority needed to overcome an inevitable veto from Gov. John Lynch.

The bill now goes back to the House. Leaders of the lower chamber must decide if it accepts a Senate change, which strikes a provision that held unions did not have to represent the interests of those who refuse to join.

Union leaders say the House language could lead to new, ad hoc unions forming to challenge the union officially designated to collectively bargain with management.

1. Then non-union members should not receive any of the benefits that Unions get...
like 40 hour work weeks, extra pay for overtime, free weekends and a host of other benefits.
