Edited on Thu Apr-21-11 01:53 PM by GreenPartyVoter
contacting your Congressional representatives and media figures:

Fact: There are 43 million Americans living in poverty.

Fact: More and more Americans are relying on social services such as WIC, Medicaid, Food Stamps, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

Fact: Congress is poised to slash funding to all of these services, leaving those 43 million people with nowhere to turn. There is no charity, no church, possessing the wherewithal to help every single person in need.

Fact: You have the right to contact your representatives and tell them how you want your government to work! Let them know that it is not ok to abandon the most vulnerable members of our society!

included there. (And to be honest, the leftish media isn't doing as a good a job discussing poverty as they could be, so it's still important to remind them that America is more than just the middle class. :hi:)

Went looking for some email/contacts, sorry didn't have much luck

If you were empowered to make large cuts in one of the four big budget items, which would it be?

Defense
Medicare
Medicaid
Social Security

Thank you for participating in The O'Reilly Poll. Your response has been recorded.
Bill will reveal the results on The O'Reilly Factor after the voting period has closed. Watch The O'Reilly Factor or check back here on BillOReilly.com for results.

Why on EARTH would they even ask that?

And why do I suspect there's a reason we can't see the results?

17. And if any reader thinks 'this doesn't affect me' you are wrong!
Edited on Thu Apr-21-11 03:31 PM by mntleo2
To the reader who ignores these pleas:

...because whether or not you ever use the safety net, your contribution to it helps fight for decent livable wages, access to education, health issues, and housing stability. Without these things you can guarantee the increase in crime, homelessness, substance abuse issues, serious health issues, and more.

For instance, did you know within the homeless populations there is a deadly and incurable form of TB that is being ignored? Not only are the infected in terrible agony because of lack of treatment, TB is a infectious disease. No matter how much hand soap, disinfectants or whatever you use, TB bacteria just get stronger and more resistant. It ignores and rapidly morphs into a stronger bug from using those "normal" preventions and is just waiting to infect more people. It is infecting the homeless at alarming rates. Think it is going to say, "oh here is a middle class person, think I will just skip them and jump to that homeless lady over there ..."?

Please do not blame the homeless for this horrible disease waiting to infect the general population. It is because these people do not even have a stable place to sleep and sleep in shelters where they contract it from others. You cannot expect the shelter intake workers to be doctors to detect it, and even if they were, should some person with TB be thrown out, like the lepers of old? The medical industry in this country is already ignoring recognized diseases, and they refuse to administer any real help to these people. Housing shortages add to this forcing people to sleep in shelters or on the street. Health departments are being cut and have other diseases to battle that are just as bad, along with this TB strain.

Additionally, if YOU ever need these services, as more and more middle class people do, it will not be there for you.

Point being, it is more than moral, it is life saving and to one's benefit to listen to: "What you do to the least of these, you do to me ..."

20. There is a government warning out to people when they are in a shelter for a month.
They are warned to get a TB test.

Yes.

Of course, how many have access to such is another question.

Yet, "liberals" think shelters are the answer. They are.... about like war is the answer.

and they can do it NOW.

This waiting until the wars end is bullshit.

MADISON didn't wait until the wars end, yet you ignore that.

GAys didn't wait until the wars end, but they got DADT.

There are lots of examples like that, but somehow, middleclass "progressives" just can't see what is right in front of their faces.

I wonder why that is?

and a large reason, to the tune of a trillion dollars plus, is the wars we are currently in. Now that does not necessarily mean that once we are no longer paying for wars that money will just flow to the poor, far from it! But there is a connection and people will use that as an excuse ... we do not have the money they will say. Then where is the money being spent and how can we redirect that money to those most in need, there is a connection.

IMHO it does no good to alienate those who agree with you.

68. "People will say we cannot afford that". AND, those are the people of the RW. THEY are the ones
selling this stuff that this country is broke.

The more we keep saying it is all about the wars, the more we let poor and homeless people suffer and die.

THAT is the crux of it, and there is no point in arguing the point. IF you think that is "alienating" people who "agree", then I guess any disagreement is "alienation".

Whatever. Let us all die. I am to the point where I don't care all that much. Which is maybe what is wanted.

75. I think we can fight on more than one front, and we need to. The RW is Obama telling...
the country that we are broke and needing to cut entitlement expenditures, while spending billions overseas, I do understand the need to keep fighting on both fronts.

It is not just the RW saying this stuff, Obama started saying this before the inauguration, it did not get much play on DU at the time, just like his statements to escalate the war in Afghanistan did not make DU headlines, they were dismissed.

Do you think Obama is part of the RW - serious question.

58. I was a green partier for a bit
now I'm just furious! lol

I can't vote for a corporatist and hadn't until Obama - a known entity to me. But I just can't do it again. I can't enable the elimination of an opposition to corporatism.

72. The pizza is in mortal combat with the apple crisp. I am telling you right now, never mix those two.

73. That was a tad too graphic. There are some fights that just don't end well.
But I would be very happy to take the apple crisp off your hands.

Free of charge.

80. Problem is that there is a contingent of DUers now who seem
to think that only the President is responsible for the laws and Congress has nothing to do with it. The focus is on tearing a Democratic administration down and not holding these Republicans in Congress responsible for anything.

83. Yes, people need to remember to hold the Congress critters accountable. I know that this thread has
dropped over the weekend, but I am hoping tomorrow to find more DUers who haven't called yet and remind them that time is running short.
