"Ayn Rand was a wellfare queen"
I was doing a search for Ayn Rand was and the second thing on the list was wellfare queen, so I did a search and it turns out she died on medicare and SS. Am I the only one who thinks we should let the freepers know their goddess was supported by the evil government? My, what would John Galt think?

2. Actually she wouldn't call herself an atheist.

She said it would give religion "a respect it does not deserve."

13. Nuthin' wrong with us cougars.......
Oh, and adultery apparently isn't quite what she was into. I have read her marriage described as "open", FWIW.

But I loathe her anyway, lol.

14. "I have read her marriage described as "open"..."
I've heard the same. I've also heard the husband wasn't quite as enthusiastic as Ayn.

Additionally, having an open marriage in the 50's? How PROGRESSIVE.

16. I'm all for consenting adults doing whatever they choose, but... yuk.
I mean, seriously. She looked like Peter Lorre with a mop on his head.

:spray: Holly shit that's funny. I'd forgotten who Peter Lorre was. Did a quick search and a side by side comparison.

they sure do worship a lot of false Gods. I.E. Reagan, Ayn Rand......

4. Not only that, she tried to hide it
She collected it under the name "Ann O'Connor" using a variant of her first name and the last name of her former husband.

Even their heroes are hypocrites.

5. Let me give you the freeper response:
"She was forced to pay into both systems. What is wrong with her wanting to get back some of the coerced contributions, and what is hypocritical about criticizing the system?"

Discuss.

22. Didn't post it--I read comments like this in response to the Paul Ryan
And Ayn Rand stories in The Examiner (RW rag). These were usually accompanied by the usual left bashing.

I actually do think they have a smidgeon of a point here but hoped a DUer would write a great retort.

24. It's not hypocritical to criticize the system
provided you forego the benefits. It IS hypocritical to become the thing that one denounces, what she describes as a parasite. It would have been noble for her to refuse to take any benefits beyond what she was forced to pay into the system (plus interest). But she didn't. She played along like everyone else and became one of the things she railed against, without publicly changing her position, and even trying to hide her identity as noted on another post here.

The sad thing is, she was given an opportunity to see that sometimes people need help, but rather than admit her ideas were in any way wrong, she stubbornly refused to recant and drew on public assistance in secret. I believe her published ideas are toxic and she should have at least moderated her position.

27. well said! I also think that any principled "personal accountability"
Edited on Fri Apr-22-11 01:07 PM by spooky3
type could also donate either all benefits to a deserving private charitable cause, or donate all benefits beyond what one paid into the system plus interest, without taking any tax deductions for these (if applicable). Such people, of course, must have assets or other income that they could use to support themselves without Medicare or SS, and point to how they have lived according to the principles they believe in. However, even then, others could correctly point out that at least some good fortune (e.g., they didn't get hit by a car and permanently disabled) or support from society (e.g., good public schools they attended) helped him/her succeed.

One could be very public about doing so if desired, and make a more credible and persuasive case to potential converts, or at least be more respected by more persons.

7. I'd love to see a parody of "Dancing Queen" by Abba based on this.
Call it "Welfare Queen", base it on Rand's hypocrisy, and mock her mercilessly. Heck, maybe we could get a few talented DUers to record a version to post to YouTube!

She at the same time could find no logic to deny them same rights as everyone else. Freepers wouldn't like that either.
