a serious question about Barack Obama's getting elected |
|
this is a question I have wondered about for awhile
Would Obama's getting have been impacted if Michelle Obama had been White rather than Black?
It may seem a flame bait question however I was married to a Black for 18 years we're divorced but still friends and we have discussed this question and came to the conclusion that it may well have negatively impacted Obama's election but I am curious and would like some other imput

9. oh yes indeed I am but there is also a question of how race is perceived |
|
because Obama could call himself a White man with equal accuracy or inaccuracy the perception of race is really an almost purely visual thing

5. an almost serious question about capitalization: |
|
should white and black be capitalized.
And saying "married to a Black" sounds weird to me. Maybe it's generational.

7. no it's me I think faster than I type |
|
so what I was thinking was 'married to a Black man' and proof reading doesn't seem to help my brain just fills it in but I capitalize Black White the same way I would capitalize Muslim or Jew or Christan (I post on I/P a lot)

8. We are so messed up about race in this country. |
|
If you are one-half black - you're black. If you're one-quarter black - you're black. If you're one-eighth black, and anyone knows it - you're black.
Even the terms "black" and "white" are ridiculous distinctions to make about people who are all varying shades of brown.
