The Rude Pundit - An Easter Prayer from the Family Research Council
This week, which most Christians call "Holy Week," but real Christiany Christians call "Passion Week," we members of the Super Duper Prayer Team of the nutzoid evangelical Family Research Council (motto: "Christ died for this?") have been asked to pray because of the sinful activities at the White House's Easter Prayer Breakfast. The Rude Pundit joined the SDPT under a nom de rude some years ago, and every Wednesday he is sent his rusty prayerbone orders for what we gotta drop on our knees for and give Jeezus the high, hard prayin' business.

Now, you might think that the Easter Prayer Breakfast, with 130 religious leaders gathered to dine on ecumenical danishes, is an innocuous event where the President once again shows that, really, he's really, really Christian. But you may as well be sucking the Devils barbed cock while flames burn off your anus hair, you sinning fucker.

Here's how the FRC viewed the event: "Yesterday, President Obama hosted an Easter Prayer Breakfast for 130 clergymen and women in the East Room of the White House. Invited were clergy from Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox traditions, as well as non-traditional groups, among them clergy from homosexual and pro-homosexual denominations, one considered a forerunner in shaping homosexual theology." Yep, it was all about queer-loving. And you know that when Jesus was hanging on that cross in agony, the one thing he was thinking was, "Don't let a black-Muslim-Kenyan president invite the gays to his house to pray to me."

So we on the SDPT are told to "Pray that God will give to us leaders with a Christian worldview, people who know and keep God's eternal laws in public, in private, and in the way they influence public policy." Or it would be simpler to just say, "Pray that God hates fags."

2. Why don't you post this in Religion/Atheism instead?
Or, if the issue is certain attitudes about gays, isn't there an appropriate forum for that? If I were to even mention some topics -- and not in a mocking way -- that post would be moved to an appropriate dungeon, at best, or deleted at worst.

Maybe you could ask yourself if some of your fellow DUers might find this highly offensive.

3. I'm Catholic, read at mass, and will again Easter morning...
and I ain't offended. DU used to have a sense of humor way back when, and humor is a great tool for shining light on the dumb shit we do. Guess I am just secure in my beliefs.

4. Wait.
Your Catholic upbringing interfered with parsing what I said.

Let's look again..."Why don't you post this in Religion/Atheism instead?"

See? It's about where to post things.

And, again, I ask the question, Do you think some of your fellow DUers might find this highly offensive?

Not, "Do YOU find this highly offensive?"

Whaddya think, cowboy? About the topic and the question, I mean.

10. What are you finding offensive here, specifically?
And don't you think you would do better to ask the mods?

11. It's really clear what my intent was.
1. Is it possible that some DUers of the Christian faith might find this offensive?
2. Well, is it?
3. What's the rhetorical intent of the piece? Could it be...religion?
4. Is there a forum for religious discussion, views, diatribes, etc?
5. Well, is there?

Again, my post asked a question. Can you restate the question clearly?

Did I object to the piece, itself? Not particularly. I've seen much better satire. Just thought it a tad thoughtless in GD, is all. It's so telling that so many would rise to defend this, without ever admitting I might be right.

Your reply was pretty straightforward.

17. Fair enough. No prob. Even though I'm not the OP or a mod, let me take a crack at
your response:

1) Is it possible that some DUers of the Christian faith might find this offensive?

Sure, it's possible. Lots of things are possible. Is there anything in this piece that is directly offensive to quote-unquote-all Christians? I don't think so. The column is directed pretty clearly at the Family Research Council, which is a very small subgroup of quote-unquote-all Christians, doubtfully very many of the ones on DU. It is interesting that while we are often instructed to remember, by some Christians on DU, that the religious right is NOT synonymous with quote-unquote-all Christians, nevertheless attacks on the religious right are likewise invariably taken by a few to be attacks on, again, quote-unquote-all Christians.

2. Well, is it?

See above.

3. What's the rhetorical intent of the piece? Could it be...religion?

Yeah, and it's also about politics. And The President. You may have noticed, there is a significant overlap between religion and politics in this country, particularly where groups like "The Family Research Council" are concerned.

4. Is there a forum for religious discussion, views, diatribes, etc?

Yes, there is. But religion, politics and general discussion overlap. See above.

5. Well, is there?

See above.

7. Gosh Timmy
How would those of us who follow His Rudeness via Meeg find his shit?

Offensive? That's the fucking point, to take something some wingnut does to offend the sensible and offend their asses right back.

So are you offended by the topic or that it was posted in General Discussion?

I'm wondering what topics you are referring to? Are any of them ones discussed by those who shall not be named?

9. Reading impaired, are we?
I said it twice, and you STILL miss the point! And a suspicious mind, too! Got a hidden agenda, Hoot, ol' buddy?

And your biting sarcasm is so...so...well, let's just say your not here to debate a point with clarity.

It's a pity. And you're probably real smart, too.

12. Gee Timmy
Perhaps you could lay it out for me like I'm a fucking 4 year old then, since I'm so obviously reading impaired, be careful though lest Name Removed misunderstand that you're not trying to call me stoopud and usurp your post.

What was your fucking point? You know, the one that was so nice you had to say it twice and apparently I still missed it? That this was posted in GD and not Religion, or GLBT, right? The answer, which I gave you, is that Meeg posts His Rudeness' essays here in GD, has for years and some of us rely on them being here.

"And your biting sarcasm is so...so...well, let's just say your not here to debate a point with clarity."

I'll try to work on my clarity specifically, just for you, as soon as I figure out some point you have made that I have not already directly responded to, even accidentally. Like the one about my alleged suspicions or perhaps my hidden agenda. Do you always project like that, or am I special, ol' buddy?

I posted a post which was fairly straight-forward and a request or a suggestion. You came at me with sarcasm and a bit of vitriol. I'm sorry to have spoken so forthrightly to one of your cherished institutions here on DU. You didn't take it well, at all. I still think you need to brush up on tone, clarity, reading interpretation, just to name a couple of things.

14. Oh Goodie!
I'm special! So special...

I must have tripped over the part of your question where you begin "Why don't you..." when I answered because many of us follow the R.P. here in GD.

Sarcasm? Vitriol? Nope, not in post #7. I really did want to know what topics you were referring to getting moved. Afterward, sure, in response to your vituperation. Were you expecting me to tell you: "I'm sorry you called me stupid?"

That's a bold leap you seem to be making about the existence of a revolution let alone questioning who's on who's side.

16. Actually, I deleted the "revolution" part.
"Why don't you post this in Religion/Atheism instead?"

This was my question.

On re-read, it wasn't so bad, after all. So I'm backing down from my original response.

Sarcasm aside, you don't seem all that bad yourself.

Happy Easter.
