The event will be
Sunday May 1, 2011
12:00pm to 4:00pm
Regency House
Pompton Plains, New Jersey

The dinner will be featuring Juan Cole, author of the book Engaging the Muslim World

Professor Cole will be receiving NJPA's Dorothy Eldridge Peacemaker award for his daily and ongoing commentary on the quickly changing politics of North Africa and the Middle East and for his work in challenging Western stereotypes of Muslims and Islam.

At this time of increased tensions, and earth shaking changes in North Africa and the Middle East, we are glad that Professor Cole will share his ideas and perspectives with us to help us understand what is happening, and why. This event and his presentation will promote the rebuilding of relationships between peoples damaged since 2001. The polarization fostered by some of our media and elected officials is culminating now with Rep. Peter King's hearing on the "radicalization of Muslims" in America. Professor Juan R.I. Cole cuts through the noisy rhetoric to offer calm and informed explanation, the first step toward real understanding.

NJPA will also be honoring The Islamic Center of Morris County for its commitment to nuclear disarmament and its willingness to open its doors to Muslims and non-Muslims alike in a genuine effort to build a peaceful community in New Jersey.

NJPA founding member (1957) and long time board member Gerald Stillman will receive the Peace Action Person of the Year award. Jerry has been an editor of Jewish Currents and has advised NJPA over the years, particularly on issues of nuclear disarmament and building peace between the Israelis and Palestinians.
